I was thinking of getting these.

I suppose it has been particularly dull/rainy. At least it has been here. Not the best weather for solar power.

Where were they from? We had some from John Lewis last year, they lit up pathetically for about half an hour after being out all day, and by the end of the Christmas season they'd gone rusty. They were rubbish. I know there's not a lot of daylight at the moment, but if solar CHRISTMAS lights don't work without twelve hours of blazing sunshine they shouldn't be on the market.

Try putting a stronger battery in them.

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 09/12/2009 16:16

sunlight?
I'm not sure that solar powered lights in the middle of the month with the shortest days (and currently where we are wettest days) are going to be terribly effective.

Mind you. Have just had a genius moment. Loads of streams round here. I reckon people with streams in their gardens could easily rig up little water mill powered lights.

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 14/12/2009 20:49

Well they came off ebay and having been switched off all week to charge they were switched on last night and lasted 2.5 hours

I am currently looking at other options..

We have solar fairy lights in our garden, but they only work in the summer. Days too short now.

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 14/12/2009 20:55

I will take them off tomorrow and put away for the summer. They will be nice on the patio then.
