No to all except teacher (Yr 2) but that is one group present from all the Mums. This thread has prompted me to think about the Postman & Binmen, I should get something. Oh yes and the Waitrose man as I've booked a delivery for 21st Dec and he is always on time and sooo nice and polite/helpful.

AIBU to be at the box left on the counter of a shop with a hint message of 'merry christmas from the staff'.

It was an Oxfam shop.

your child's nursery/primary/secondary teacher - homemade biscuits and brownies
the binmen - £20 in a card and the same for the recycling crew (there are loads of them so I work on the basis that it's a round of drinks for them).
the lollipop person (if you walk to school and use one) - NA
the window cleaner (if you have one) - na
the cleaner (if you have one) - this is the first year. Will be getting her a bottle of wine and probably a tenner in a card or a box of chocs
the gardener (if you have one) - NA
newspaper boy/girl (if you have one) -NA
milkman (if you have one) - £10 in a card
hairdresser - if I see her close to Christmas (which I will this year) I'll give her a bigger tip than usual.
postman - £10 in a card
doctor's surgery - no
dentist - no

Our binmen & recycling crew are fabulous and always take everything we put out (I suspect we must be the only family on the street who tip them, though, as they leave other houses' crap old/broken furniture etc behind and take ours!)

TheYearOfTheCat · 08/12/2009 23:57

Primary teacher - one of the mums is organising a collection - £10 each! (is it just me, or does this seem quite a lot?)

School staff - cleaner, caretaker etc - school is collecting for them.

Cleaner - happily - £50 & wine. Makes my life much easier.

Childminder - £50 & wine

Team members at work - wine

I'm going to sack my window cleaner - apparently he doesn't clean windows if they are dirty

Always tip my hairdresser.

nappyaddict · 09/12/2009 16:10

TheYearofthatCat I would have thought a couple of quid x 30 could buy a pretty decent present. £10 is ridiculous and I would say so. That teacher's probably going to get a better present off her class than their own DP (if they have one!)

Riven I would maybe get the cleaner something but I wouldn't get anyone else. I would get DS' teacher something if I didn't get the feeling she wishes DS wasn't in her class
