Is anyone else having family come to their house for the first time?? Shall we join together and offer support?

I'm having my parents and brother to us this year for the first time.

Anyone else???

I might need help with...
sizing the turkey,
sorting out seating,
general shopping lists etc

I'm quite capable of coping (I think) but it would be nice to chat in the run up to the big day

Hi. Got my mum and stepfather(who is a great cook) coming for five days from 23rd. I've managed to go my entire adult life without this happening - eek.

I've got menus planned (which will probably all go horribly wrong) and am using a spreadsheet! It's tragic...

Would love to chat if you can bear slightly Bridget Jones-esque style and meandering thoughts.

Hi belle,

Welcome!
All meandering thougts are acceptable.

A spread sheet is very organised I've only just asked mine to come.

I've got my parents coming for five days from 23rd, my POLs for Christmas Eve dinner, my sister and family (3 children) for Christmas Day, and a friend with her DP and three children on the 27th for lunch .

I spent a good part of yesterday cooking for the freezer and I have got most of the menus planned in my head, and some of the sourcing is underway.

I need to make five different batches of vegetable soup (my parents always eat soup for the second meal of the day).

Bonsoir - that's just scary! I thought I was doing well... I have wasted an hour at work spent my lunch hour sorting out what I'll need to buy by listing all the ingredients.

I've made a tactical error though and booked a delivery slot with Ocado - should have gone for Sainsbury's and now they have no deliveries left. I can't believe it's possible to spend nearly £200 on food alone with no booze!

I need to finish present shopping before I get properly started on cooking and getting the decorations done... Deadline end of this week for presents, I think...

General shopping suggestions:

extra toilet rolls
kitchen rolls
matches
batteries
extra strong foil
wash-up liquid
dishwasher detergent
laundry detergent
stain remover for upholstery and carpets
nappies
soap/hand wash
indigestion tabs
pain relief
childrens pain relief and teething stuff
long-life milk and fruit juice
baby formula
extra bread and rolls for freezer

that's all I can think of for now, never underestimate how much toilet roll guests will go through!!!
