Every year, Father Christmas wraps a couple of board games for the dd's (almost 10, 6 and 2) to share.

However, this year, I am he is lacking inspiration! So mnetters, what is your child's favourite board game?

oh, and Orchard Toys' Post the Most

How about Balloon Lagoon for your 6 year old? My DD6 loves it.

My DS3 doesn't have any board games but loves Elefun.

CarGirl · 04/12/2009 00:24

Mine like hullaballo and frustration

MarionCrane · 04/12/2009 02:29

Blokus

FimbleHobbs · 04/12/2009 10:00

Mine are 4 and 3 and like Dotty Dinosaurs and Shopping List.

Fennel · 04/12/2009 10:24

At the moment it's Boggle for 9 and 8 year old, 5yo will play it quite happily too. Chess is another favourite with the older two.

Otherwise. Cluedo. Downfall. Flying Pirates. Mastermind. All very traditional. the trad games seem to last the longest beyond the novelty factor.

purpleturtle · 04/12/2009 10:35

Our newest favourite is Qwirkle.

We really like Junior Monopoly too.

CremeDeMenthe · 04/12/2009 11:19

Pop To The Shops
Monopoly Junior (the funfair one)
Any of the Cranium ones

ellokitty · 05/12/2009 10:01

My DD (6) loves junior cluedo.

A game you can all play together is uno extreme. Your eldest two will enjoy playing the game, whilst your youngest can be given the role of pressing the button to see whether cards fly out! That keeps my 3yo DD entertained whilst the rest of us play uno (6yr old included!)

TheArmadillo · 05/12/2009 10:10

we've just got kid's charades for ds (5yo)

Has pictures and words so the younger ones do whatever the picture is (i.e. impression of a chicken) and the older ones read the descriptions.

Had loads of positive reviews and pretty sure ds will enjoy it.

pollywobblebauble · 05/12/2009 10:12

dd is 5, she loves frustration, junior monopoly, dominoes, jenga and uno, as do we. she loves junior cluedo and dora scrabble which dh and i find it a bit tedious...

HappyMummyOfOne · 05/12/2009 10:33

DS loves most of the Orchard toy games. He also loves Connect 4, Guess Who, Frustration and Tiddly Winks.

PandaG · 05/12/2009 10:38

another vote for Qwirkle - 2 yo will be able to sort the tiles into colours and shapes

also like junior monopoly, junior (and adult now) cluedo

junior Articulate

DC are 7 and 10

CarGirl · 05/12/2009 22:51

pictureureka says older but my 3 year old has played and my 4 year old nephew is the best!

dearprudence · 05/12/2009 23:20

Frustration - good for wide age range.
Tiddlywinks.
Junior monopoly - simple rules.
Downfall.
Backgammon for the older ones only. DS started to learn at 6ish.
This year FC is bringing Monopoly City, Yatzee, Guess Who Extra, Connect 4x4

Please avoid Piranha Panic!

DS is 7 and loves a board game.

PlonkerTeatowelOnTheirHeads · 05/12/2009 23:41

Fab ideas!

Thanks all

mummyofexcitedprincesses · 05/12/2009 23:49

We bought Headbandz and the girls love it! You have the name of someone/thing on your head and have to ask questions with a yes or no answer to guess who or what it is. I have made some cards of our own to use, as some of them were a bit difficult.

chicaguapa · 05/12/2009 23:57

DS got Zoo am I? from Tesco for his 5th birthday which is like Headbandz but is just about animals and has a picture on the card so he doesn't need to read it. Both DC love it and we play it after dinner. I recommend it.

They both also love Hullabaloo which I got from the PTFA fair for £2 and it was a bargain. Keeps them amused for hours.

Does anyone know any good board games for dyslexic children. My ds is 7 and has trouble reading, we have frustration and connect 4, I tried junior scrabble but he just gets frustrated.

DD (8.10) bought the game of Life at a car boot sale, and she is always pestering to play it. Not sure if it is still available for purchase at the shops though - the one she bought is quite old.
