Will I be forever known as a stingy arse if I do this?

DS and I have been making salt dough ginger bread men for the Christmas tree and he's asked to give them to his preschool teachers as presents once they're painted.

Naff?

No, that's lovely.

Came in prepared to say "yes, you are a stingy arse" but actually this is a nice idea.

Oh good.

They're slightly odd looking but that's part of their charm I reckon.

My dd made clay ones last year in pottery and painted them and gave one to each of her teachers. They were actually lovely we have a few on our tree!

tassisssss · 27/11/2009 20:01

thinking my dd (3) will give her key worker a candle holder made of air drying clay cut into star shape with tea light in painted gold and sparkly. she adores her key worker and is very excited to make something for her. cute. x

No.
Says a million times more than naff box of chocolates or smelly hand cream.

ja9 · 27/11/2009 20:13

that sounds lovely!

RichardCranium · 27/11/2009 20:21

just need to make sure DS doesn't eat them before I can give them out .

He made me a Diwali candle holder at school out of salt dough, I caught him eating it a week ago, glitter and all. Strange boy.

Not naff at all

brimfull · 27/11/2009 20:40

I may copy that idea

autumnsun · 27/11/2009 20:44

Oh yes, what's the recipe and what do you paint them with?

My DD has just started nursery and I feel really stupid now because I hadn't even thought of getting her teachers presents - arrrgghhhh! Every time I buy a Christmas present another six get added to the list!

Heated · 27/11/2009 20:47

Lovely idea, I'd be really touched to receive such a thoughtful gift.

HumphreyCobbler · 27/11/2009 20:49

I would have been really pleased with this when I was teaching.

I used to give away boxes of chocolates to everyone I met after the last day of term, the thought was appreciated but I didn't eat much chocolate.

2 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt, add half a cup of water slowly and then knead to a firm dough. Got recipe off t'internet, worked OK for ours.

Going to paint them with normal paint and then varnish.

My mum still has decorations on her tree made by children who are now grandparents themselves. She treasures them
