Wii games for toddlers

We bought a Wii a while ago,, which is still in the box as we are a bit fearful of letting my 3yo and 2yo near it. i can almost hear the squabbles and constant requests for a quick game of something.....

now however we are wondering if the alternative would be to find a nice game that they could enjoy while learning. is there such a game?? i have a few games on my ipod like a card matching game, or answering simple questions about shapes, numbers etc. does anyone know of anything like this for the wii, or perhaps something less virtuous which might be fun for us all to play together. no idea at all of what's available on the wii and what might be appropriate but think it's a bit of a waste not to use it, even if it is opening a computerised can of worms at a pretty young age.

can anyone help please?

My almost 3yo loves the boxing on Wii Fit and Wii sport, but doesn't really understand it much. She just likes to copy us.

I think that age is a bit young to have their own game iyswim?

there is a peppa pig wii game soon to be released that I'll be getting for DD(3), you can pre order it on various sites including amazon.

Also dora and disney princess games that look pretty simple/easy. Or how about toy story, carnival funfair, or games based on kids films, like madagascar, lego indiana jones, ice age etc?

I'd suggest Mario Kart. It's pretty basic to control and understand. You can sit the kid your lap and let them hold the steering wheel while you 'help with the corners' .

Wii Sports Resort is also quite easy to control and the 'goal' of each of the games is obvious. My 4yo loves the fencing, stunt plane and wakeboarding.

The Lego series games might look tempting, but they require a lot more dexterity IMHO and the goal of each stage might not be obvious - it isn't to me, at any rate.

Personally, I'd keep it in the box for a few more years. There really is no reason to introduce this to them yet. They are still at the age when playing with a carboard box can be magical and where their imagination is all. I know as computer games go, these are good because they're more physical based, but your 2 and 3 year old just don't need it imvho.

DD2 is 3 and she loves Mario Kart and Sports Resort. She is a dab hand with the fencing!

and personally I think you could think the other way about it - so what if a few bits of plastic are 'wasted' for a while...it's better than your kids time being wasted on it. Because i do think it's wasted, really. All other forms of play are going to be better for them, imo, at this age.
