Father Christmas drops a dvd down our chimney on Christmas eve as he's passing to some other countries but this year he's having trouble choosing. The past 3 years we've had The santa Clause 1,2 and 3 but there isn't a #4 , help please. The boys are 9 and 7 - thanks!

Okay - my personal favourite is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation but perhaps not suitable for 9 and 7 .

The Snowman (short but sweet).

Animated version of A Christmas Carol (or the Muppet Version).

Might have to go and check the DVD collection......

DebInAustria · 23/11/2009 06:57

Thanks Jolly Pirate, I'll see to it that FC starts compiling his shortlist!

Oh POlar Express is lovely.

TitsalinaBumsquash · 23/11/2009 07:02

We all love the Muppetts Xmas Carol, it is our Xmas Eve DVD of choice, very funny and entertaining, we also watch the Snowman as DP always watched it with his Grandparents as a child so it holds sentimental value.

twinklytoes · 23/11/2009 07:22

miracle on 34th street but maybe too soppy for the boys?

JollyPirate · 23/11/2009 07:35

Another vote for Polar Express here too - forgot that one.

Saltire · 23/11/2009 07:48

Polar Express is good.
The Muppets Christmas carol

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 23/11/2009 09:24

Same as above, Polar Express and Muppet Christmas Carol are faves in this house.

DebInAustria · 23/11/2009 11:19

Thanks everyone, does anyone rate Home Alone 2? Boys loved the 1st one but then again it's not such a nice film for Christmas Eve is it?

Best adult one is Holiday Inn (White Christmas) I love that film

kimlouiseb · 23/11/2009 12:35

I am getting my boys (who are younger admittedly) this one. Based on the Rayomnd Briggs Father Christmas book, by the same people who made The Snowman. Its only a short one but at £2.98 its a bargain in my opinion.

Love this version of A Christmas Carol too - mainly because some of it was filmed where I live (Shrewsbury).

Elf is great too and again a bargain - might have to get that one too!!

geordieminx · 23/11/2009 13:34

I love home alone 2 - its set in NYC - which is my fav place so I may be bias

I have disc with:

Miracle on 34th street
Muppet christmas carol
Its a wonderful life
The Snowman
Home Alone 2
National Lampoons Vacation
The Polar Express
Elf

The are all fab.

biscuitsmustbedunkedintea · 23/11/2009 21:34

My fav is Santa Claus : The Movie, with Dudley Moore. Saw it when I was little and fell in love with the reindeer in it

DebInAustria · 23/11/2009 22:23

Polar Express.
(I can't wait til my DD's old enough for it - I think it's a bit nightmarey for her just yet).

unfitmummy · 24/11/2009 09:05

i would say your boys would live the raymond briggs father christmas ("another bloomin' christmas!") and probably the muppets christmas carol. another thought - do they like disney because there are some great mickey mouse christmas dvd's as well which we love.

JustGettingByMum · 24/11/2009 12:31

Another vote for Elf - will appeal to both boys I should think,

or how about Night at the Museum? (Our dd watched it when she was 7 and loved it)

heartofgold · 24/11/2009 12:34

elf

and the box of delights

haz29 · 25/11/2009 01:23

Definately - without a doubt - 'The polar express'! Home alone 2 is ok but you've got 2 watch the polar express on christmas eve, especially if you think your little ones may soon be losing their faith in Old St Nick!! ...Brilliant film!

emmcar · 25/11/2009 16:17

Nightmare Before Christmas is a favorite in this house.

DuchessOfAvon · 25/11/2009 16:20

The Box of Delights. Yes, yes, yes.

And DH raves about Bad Santa but not one for the kids, I'm guessing.

homicidalmummymaniac · 25/11/2009 19:44

White Christmas
The Family Man (Nicholas Cage and Tea Leoni - kind of a modern 'It's A Wondeful Life' always makes me cry and is really wonderful.
Bad Santa
Elf
Polar Express

Can't wait to get watching........

homicidalmummymaniac · 25/11/2009 19:51

forgot Scrooged (Bill Murray) and Jingle All the Way (appallingly bad with Arnie, but still have to watch it...)
