Have suggested this

He's 4 in March and mad on dinosaurs, but it's alot of money on one thing, wondering if anyone already has one, is it any good?

This one looks really good but I think he's too young?

Or this one, but it looks massive!

His response will be 'I'll do that as well' earlybird, been there before (except it never happens because when the time comes he'll be skint again)

I agree with something for the garden

What about a treehouse or climbing frame

Why not suggest he take him for a weekend away at Centreparcs on their christmassy weekends?

I will suggest something for the garden - but I've a feeling he will view this as more of a gift to the family and might not be so keen.

DS doesn't have overnight stays with him.

TBH I'm not fussed if he spends this much money, there will probably be nothing next year again.

Curiousmama - You really think it will be ok? Thats the one I like the look of the most.

I don't knowe, chickandduck, I guess it depends on the child and what other things they have.

Dd2 would love one, she is v envious of her friend , she is 5.

If ds really likes dinosaurs, and he doesn't have anything else like that, then why not? It's not something he's likely to get anothet one of!

ChickandDuck · 22/11/2009 13:31

The more I read up on it, the more I'm convinced.

"It's not something he's likely to get anothet one of!"

Very good point. His birthday is in March and he's likely to get loads of Playmobil/Lego then.

Plus such an elaborate toy will appeal to his Dad (grin)

Yes I think it'll be fine. If he throws it at the wall and it breaks you didn't pay for it anyway Plus it's like a pet but no poop!

geordieminx · 22/11/2009 13:46

They had the dinosaur for £50 in Borders this morning

ChickandDuck · 22/11/2009 13:49

which one geordieminx?

My mum bought the ultra spike dinosaur for my son and two nephews last year for christmas. They were then 18 months, 2 and 4.

They all love it - it's remote control and walks around, rears up on it's hind legs and roars. It's good fun.

They all still play with them and whats more they are very tough - especially to have survived a year with my nephews.

We play make sure it's working properly too occasionally.

Spike the Ultimate Dinosaur is great, we saw him working in ELC last week and dd1 (5) loved it (a lot of money though), but i would say its one of those things that would be great for a few days and then the fun will be gone out of it.

Dd1 loved this which was also set up in ELC, loads of children where glued to it.

ChickandDuck · 22/11/2009 16:47

Is it quite big? Does it take up much room? It's hard to tell from pics.

Marne · 22/11/2009 16:57

It is big .

TheTerribleSpider · 22/11/2009 17:12

It is pretty big yes, we keep our son's in his bedroom and it comes down when he wants to play with it.

Gosh I can't believe people think that dinosaur thing that erm - blinks sometimes - will actually amuse a child for more than 5 minutes. All very well as a shop gimmick but honestly what a waste of dosh!
