Skateboards. Who knows about them?

DS2, who's 9, is desperate for a new and improved skateboard for Christmas. He says Creature and Zero are good makes. Is that right? What makes a 'good' skateboard?

My DSs both young teens make us go through the rigmarole of buying bits of skateboard separately - board bit, trucks etc as allegedly you end up with a superior vehicle if you do this. I'm always totally clueless but in the various shops they frequent the staff are always young devotees and genuinely keen on discussing the possibilities, it's quite unlike typical high street shopping. I would make a trip out of choosing one with DS if there are no Father Christmas sensitivies - his opinions will be treated with serious consideration and he will probably learn a couple of tricks.

You will spend what always feels to me like a lot though so I guess it depends whether you are prepared for that.

There is a LOT of talk of skateboards in our house and I don't recognise either of those names, they may not be old skool enough for my boys though, or I might not have been listening

We are not clued up about skateboards but DS(8 1/2) has decided on one from Decathlon which seemed really good as he skateboarded around the store

DS and his friends are obsessed. He keeps coming home and telling me he has learned impressive new 'tricks' and shows me them. Tbh they all look really crap and unimpressive to me but then I just don't get it. I see teenagers in the skate park doing similar 'tricks' and again they look crap.

So I nod and say, 'Mmm. Great!'

Ds is into skateboarding. He got one recently from a skateboard shop with separate parts for around £75 in total. He can replace the board I believe.
