I am planning to get my nearly 3 yr old DS a toy farm for Christmas, any recommendations for one that is fairly sturdy?

My dd really liked her happyland farm from ELC. It's survived for two years and has had a lot of play. You can also buy extras for it which is nice.

this

happy land

a bit girly

or this

OrmIrian · 14/11/2009 19:46

Yep. Get my dad to make you one. DS#2 is still playing with most of it now - that's 4 kids it's done and 40 yrs. Sadly he is now 78 and in hospital waiting for a heart op

Alternatively try Schleich - they do fantastic stables etc, not sure about farms but worth a try.

magicOC · 14/11/2009 19:46

First one on Marne's list is def worth it. All I would suggest is, if you had the space to keep it up then glue the base pieces together.

OrmIrian · 14/11/2009 19:50

Try here

Pricey but will still be in use in many years time.

MortaIWombat · 14/11/2009 23:07

W H Smith's one is currently half price, and very sweet.

Getting DS aged 2 the ELC Happyland farm, zoo, pirate ship AND Village of the Damned.

Because DH refuses to get a son of his the Toys R Us Doll House for some strange reason

mummysleepy · 15/11/2009 11:58

thanks for all the suggestions, there are loads of good offers just now!! ELC one looks good

has anyone any experience of the oldfield farm or le toy van farm? both a bit pricey and wondering if they are worth it.

here

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 15/11/2009 12:12

no thats wrong because he just turned 3!!!

KatyLiz · 15/11/2009 13:44

My DD got the le toy van one for her birthday when she was 4, that was 18 months ago now and it's still in good condition. She really likes it and it's well played with.

It doesn't come with any animals but she got 10 of the Schleich ones which are nice. She got it from my parents, I had no idea how much it cost until I just looked and it is a bit pricey! I guess you always pay for quality though!

PinkyMinxy · 15/11/2009 22:58

We bought DD1 the Oldfield Farm last year and it has been played with loads. It's really lovely and fits on one of those Ikea play tables perfectly, or you can spread it out on the floor, and it stores away which is good. The lift off roof sections fit very well- many of the other ones we looked at kept sliding off when DD was playing with them. She has a mixture of wooden stand up animals, some sleich and some vintage Britains from my own childhood. they all fit very well. She has the family that goes with it and they are great. She currently has a large plastic spider living in the hay loft and a giraffe and a Bongo in the cattlee shed.

BramblyHedge · 16/11/2009 23:05

I am also looking at farms and going a bit bonkers looking. Does the Oldfield one separate out or are the buildings stuck to the board? I have storage issues so would prefer separate buildings!

PinkyMinxy · 16/11/2009 23:17

They all come off the board, which splits in two.

Stoneycroft

quote MN code MMA09 for 10% discount

Ninks · 16/11/2009 23:24

That is really nice, and thanks for the code too, might return the ELC farm.

My post sounds really wanky reading it back actually. To clarify, we've only bought the village, the other bits are from relatives. But he has so many of these types of things because DH has taken against the Toys R Us doll house for several reasons.

tillytips · 17/11/2009 12:01

Traditional wooden ones at Letterbox. they are lovely. I bought one for my son when he was 2 or 3. He's now 15 (no longer plays with it i might add!!) but it is still in good condition. I can't bear to part with it!

BramblyHedge · 17/11/2009 20:47

Thanks for the reply - good to know!

BramblyHedge · 19/11/2009 11:36

Update: fell in love with this slightly less traditional one: www.amazon.co.uk/Wonderworld-WW-4017-Wooden-Barny-Farm/dp/B000KRNBGI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=toy s&qid=1258630477&sr=8-1

I am actually buying it for my (pah to baby toys!) 15m old but the 3.9 will also be playing with it.

Not sure where we will put it but hey ho!

fatzak · 19/11/2009 15:21

There's £10 off the ELC one at the moment plus a free animal set worth £15.

DS (6) is asking for a farm which I am quite surprised about but am happy to get him one to share with DS2 who wis just 4. Am going to pack away the castle and garage for a while as there's just too many big things for them to play with now ( all bought as birthday and Christmas prezzies over the last 6 years!)

I can't decide now between the ELC one or the GLTC one!
