OK so brother and sis gave us a great pressie last year, a night out in a box, vouchers for Wagamama and the directors box at showcase cinema.

As we all have issues with room to put well meaning xmas gifts I thought i would go for a similar thing so am thinking of tickets to see a comedy act later on in the year in our city.

Am also thinking of doing this for my parents but not sure for what, previously they have had 'tea at the ritz' and Cirque du Soleil (from my brother).

So any ideas? Its been a horrible year for my parents (all of us really) and really want to give them a treat that they deserve and shows how much I appriacte them.

Would they enjoy something like a hot air balloon ride? A special journey eg. steam train? A wine-tasting day?

LoveBeingAMummy · 11/11/2009 10:26

Thanks norbert, I know my mum would not like th hotair balloon, have had a look at the steam train option looks like a very good one. If I can get my brother in on it could even get them on one of the these

That sounds great.

Just don't give me a fucking Oxfam goat. Yes, Dear Sister, I'm looking at you.

I'm getting in-laws some theatre tickets from here as i'm fed up of getting them 'stuff' for the sake of getting them something IYKWIM.

A couple of years ago DH and I bought my Mum and Dad a weekend away in Chester. We chose Chester as it was where they first lived when they got married and had many happy years there before moving back up North.

Could you arrange for them to have a visit/weekend in a place that means something special to them?

notamumyetbutoneday · 11/11/2009 14:55

What about a wine tasting tour (if they like wine?)

NorbertDentressangle · 11/11/2009 14:59

How about membership of something like the National Trust or English Heritage?

Membership of their local theatre (which will include free tickets/discounts etc)

NorbertDentressangle · 11/11/2009 15:00

Or a gourmet break if they are into their food.

displayuntilbestbefore · 11/11/2009 15:02

LoveBeingAMummy · 12/11/2009 07:14

We bought my, notoriously hard to please, PIL theatre vouchers last year so they could choose what they wanted to see.

A few months later, I saw them give the exact same thing (not their vouchers but another set for his local theatre) to my SIL's FIL who they are close to - I guess that means they were impressed

Hotel Connexions do gift vouchers and I've given them in the past to relatives. Some lovely hotels in ther brochure.

[[http://apps.rhs.org.uk/ecommerce/giftpackNew.aspx RHS membership] for flower shows, garden entries etc

wine club memberships - wine society, laithwaites

chocolate society membership

sponsor an animal at the zoo, be a keeper for a day at local zoo

I'm thinking the same lines for my parents and pil - they just have so much "stuff" I'd rather buy experience type presents but not sure what yet.

madrush · 12/11/2009 08:17

RHS membership link here
