We recently moved to our area and would like to host a December Christmassy drinks "at home" type thing.
Most people have small children so I'm thinking late pm/early eve so they don't all have to get babysitters and because our house is fairly small - so we'd have our kids waking up/running around anyway if we did it in the evening.
What sort of time would be best? I can manage (shop bought) canapes but I don't want to have to feed everyone. It needs to be late enough in the day for everyone to have a drink if they want and for people to be able to linger without all their kids getting desperately hungry and needing to be fed by us.
How many people would we need to create a bit of a buzz? And how much drink per person if it was late pm/early eve?
Best to have it at say 3-5pm? Or 5-7pm?
Any other tips for making it a good party. Will the children generally amuse themselves? Ours are all under 5 but people have various ages up to 11 and we don't obviously have the toys/games/entertainment for older ages..
Feeling nervous about it so any advice/tips gratefully received!
