I have bought DD1 and DD2 2nd hand ones. They look good but i think they are quite expensive if just used once. Can't see DD's wanting to pack the playmobil away for a year!

AvengingGerbil · 08/11/2009 19:27

The danger with the Playmobil calendar is that it sets DCs expectations high for next year. It's hard to go back to a picture behind a door (or choc, I suppose, if yours like it, mine doesn't) after exciting small boxes with cute plastic stuff inside. Ditto the Lego ones.

IdrisTheDragon · 08/11/2009 19:32

We have had one for the past couple of years (two actually)

I am going to be selling our old ones on eBay and there are a few other ones there second hand too which are a bit cheaper. I love them as much as DS and DD I think

(I will be selling 4151 and 4152 by the way )

Scootergrrrl · 08/11/2009 19:32

How much are they in the UK? Here in Germany, we've just got the Christmas one with the animals for 11 euros in the supermarket.

lissielovessparklers · 08/11/2009 19:33

what i was thinking was its kind of an extension of his Christmas present. its £12.50 online.

I get the lego ones and my ds's love them. It does spoil them though - they expect it now.

lissielovessparklers · 08/11/2009 19:36

idris, how much are you asking for 4152?

i just think it would be a nice introduction to playmobil for him, especially since we are getting him some as his presents.

Slubberdegullion · 08/11/2009 19:37

but surely you just re-use the same one every year? Our playmobil calenders will be making their third outing this Christmas. No way would I buy them a new one each year.

dearprudence · 08/11/2009 19:38

I LOVE the Playmobil advent calendar. The evening where you sit and assemble all the little boxes and the pieces is a total joy!

I've had two proper calendars - one was a park scene which was lovely although rather a lot of birds. The other was a room which included bits of furniture, a fire, a Christmas tree and presents - gorgeous.

I've also since bought a playmobil nativity set and three kings set, and made up my own in one of those 'fill your own' calendars.

The Christmas sets are always put away when the decs come down, so I have re-used them all with no complaint from DS. TBH, I suspect I like them more than he does!

Given the price of Playmobil, I think the calendars are really good value - you get a lot of pieces for the money.

lissielovessparklers · 08/11/2009 19:42

hmmm, intresting... i think I'm sold on it. he will love it!

If they are packed away again after xmas,Do they then not get much play out of the pieces if they are put away each year? I will have to have a think about it once they are out.

lissielovessparklers · 08/11/2009 19:46

i really like the idea of him having something that will last him years rather than chocolate that will be gone before the sleeps out of his eyes!

Slubberdegullion · 08/11/2009 19:50

You don't let them play with the pieces tortoise.

Good grief woman. You NEVER let them play with the pieces. The pieces are for taking out of the boxes and placing nicely in the diorara and LOOKING at only.

No touching. Don't even breathe on the advent calendar pieces.

That path leads to mixings up and (oh the thought is almost too unbearable to countenance) bits getting......lost.

gill89 · 08/11/2009 19:52

ours is aprt of our chritams traditions...
been using the same on for about 5 yaers; they are 13 and 10 yeras old and stil love it!

IdrisTheDragon · 08/11/2009 20:02

I have now listed them on ebay .

4152 - Christmas in the Park and 4151 Nativity Scene

oldraver · 08/11/2009 20:05

I had the Christmas park one last year and at times it did drive me round the twist as DS was forever fiddling with it like DC's do and I would find all the little bits mostly birds as dearprudence says. This year I am still havina different Playmobil one but finding another home for it, hopefully where the pieces wont be scattered every time you walk past it

The Park one does have a lovely music box with it. If I remember I swapped the days of two pieces as I think the Santa/FC one IMO should of come on the 24th not the music box

Friendlypizzaeater · 08/11/2009 20:08

We adore the Lego one though we have a new one each year, but he spends ages putting all the bits together. Lots of funny shapes etc that would cost far more in the shops.

Tortoise · 08/11/2009 20:11

Lol Slubber. DD1 not playing with the playmobil would cause even more tentrums and meltdowns! Maybe i should have stuck to normal calenders! DS1 is going to love his lego one though!

dearprudence · 08/11/2009 20:22

Well quite, Slubber. And the pieces must be placed in the 'right' places. "No you can't put the ox outside. He needs to be next to the crib with his head lowered. No, darling, lowered. Because I say so. Let me do it. That's right, now leave it alone."

Just ordered the Police set for this year - not very festive, but I haven't DS hasn't had a new set for a couple of years.

Slubberdegullion · 09/11/2009 09:14

lol dearprudence.

I sense a kindred spirit

NancyBotwin · 09/11/2009 09:18

Lol at Slubber!

We also have various Christmas cuddly toys and Christmas story books which I insist are packed away each year after Christmas (well I do it when they are back at school as the dcs would prefer to have them out all year!)

Slubberdegullion · 09/11/2009 09:22

Absolutely Nancy.

No reading of Father Christmas books after dec 24th here.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 09/11/2009 09:26

We got the Santa and animals scene last year, DS loved it. We packed it away for this year and we will use it again. The plan is to use it until the cardboard has had it and then the pieces will get added to his Playmobil and we will buy another. I expect we will get 3 or 4 years out of it, assuming we don't lose any of it. So even then, still more expensive than a chocolate calendar but much nicer.

And you should NEVER let the children touch the playmobil, they ruin it

OracleInaCoracle · 09/11/2009 14:45

I think I'm sold on it tbh, ds will love it. and if i get the nativity set it will reinforce the meaning of Christmas. we have a set of nativity baubles and he tells me about them all every year.
