My ds has been given some toy shop vouchers, and even though he's only one year old, he has tons of baby toys and I want to buy him lego and put it away in the cupboard until he is older.

So votes please what is the best:
lego castle
lego police station
leog pirate ship.

probably just the basic starter kits as he's only little

belgo · 21/10/2009 14:55

my husband my ds has already been given some star wars lego, lets hope it's still in fashion when he's old enough to play with it.

my ds has police station but it is in bits now-never lasts made up. He enjoyed making the airplane as well.
Good old woolie used to do reduced ones at this time of yr.

belgo · 21/10/2009 15:02

ggirl- at what age could he make it?

Any set of lego is a good buy, IME.

MadameDuBain · 21/10/2009 15:04

I agree basics is best to start with. The specific kits are fun but then they get broken up and it's a hassle to re-make them - they are more use if you add the bits to an existing pile.

A starter box with lots of plain bricks of various sizes, wheel units, windows/doors, roof tiles and a base to build on will get the most use to start with, IME (and encourage more creativity than a kit).

DS is having the city farm for his birthday in a few weeks time here. I'm looking forward to playing with it

brimfull · 21/10/2009 15:05

With a bit of help he has made them from 5-6ish. Before that we made them and he played - I love making lego up . We fight over it now.

MIFLAW · 21/10/2009 15:06

Why not get Duplo so he can start to play with it now?

Meant to last until the age of about 5, I believe.

brimfull · 21/10/2009 15:07

Ds has a few sets but it's a big mass of lego now and he generally makes up different space ships from them. We bought him the lego house which was rubbish for him-he wants wheels.

belgo · 21/10/2009 15:10

MIFLAW- I have two older girls and a dh who is a huge lego fan so we already have tons of duplo, some basic lego and belville (nearly all second hand)

police station is great - we also have supermarket which DS loves....am researching for Christmas so am enjoying this thread!!

henryhuggins · 21/10/2009 20:48

the beach house is v good value
better than the house

henryhuggins · 21/10/2009 20:49

campervan! a must. forgot about that one. is tucked away for xmas

belgo · 22/10/2009 10:09

we also have the campervan tucked away for one of the girls for Christmas.

Good tip about the summer house being better then the town house, it's half the price as well.

we have lots of the creator 3-in-1 sets - are brilliant for taking away - as can be remade into different things. They seem to have more staying power than the architectural stuff...DS was constructing from manual by 4.

belgo · 23/10/2009 07:01

thanks jazz!
