Which Lego Star Wars

Hi my ds 1 will be five at christmas and he is obsessed with the lego star wars game.He attends an after school club and some of the children there have taken in lego star wars sets and he desperately wants some.Ds1 has autism and another mumsnetter suggested that having the characters may help with his imaginitive play.However,most of the sets are recommended from 7 yrs plus.Can anyone recommend me any which maybe ok for ds.

Any of them will be fine, I imagine they are 7plus because they are maybe slightly more complicated to put together so he may just need a bit more help. However, if it is characters you are after then you are better off looking on ebay as most of the cheaper sets just come with clone/storm troopers. Is it the original films he has seen? If so then you can pick up Princess Leia, C3PO, Luke skywalker etc from ebay.

We bought several last christmas for dd (5 at the time) and they have been played with daily.

Mine love the lego figures too - I bought them off ebay and they were about a tenner each. Had to buy 2 of each so DS1 and DS2 had their own! Would esp recommend Yoda and Darth, they're fab xx

beautician....my ds played with these from 5 and as long as your ds isn't the sort to put things in his mouth (which I assume is why they say from 7) then it should be fine. I just asked him which are his favourites and he just reeled off the list of main characters he likes - Luke Skywalker, Yoda, Darth Vadar (as long as your DS wouldn't be frightened), Anakin Skywalker, Han Solo, Boba Fett, R2D2.

Boots have them on 3 for 2 so worth a look.

Hmm, not sure you will save yourself £££ on ebay, you will probably have to pay around £5 for each figure, incl. p+p, more for Yoda, plus another couple of pounds for a lightsabre or two! However you will end up with figures that will be played and played with and spared the huge amount of grey lego which is really specifically designed to just make one thing! If you want Stars Wars figures per se, look on Lego.com for the magnet sets.

They are a minifig with a magnet but the magnet is detachable. So for £9 you can get (for instance) Yoda, Mace Windu and Count Dooku, Bargain!

Actually the sets say from 7yo because IME they are just too hard for a 5yo to do. (not saying don't buy it beautician, just be prepared to have to help!)

Nothing to do with putting things in mouth which let's face it most 4yos don't do any more.

Lego is astonishingly under-aged IMO. Sets say 5yo upwards but none of mine have enjoyed it till much older. Some of the Star Wars sets would take even a 10yo all day to put together.

Thank you for all of your replies.Im bidding on a few figures on ebay and may get some of the cheaper sets on 3 for 2 at boots.Ds never asks for any toys so i cant wait until his birthday as he is so excited to get some star wars its all i hear about at the moment.I have ds2 3.5 as well so i will take the advice and maybe leave the more complicated sets as he still puts things in his mouth.
