I ALWAYS find them the hardest by a mile...

hits in the past have been designer pj bottoms, butchers block for the kitchen, err that's about it.

save me from cds and jumpers!

Thinking of getting my Dad and the ILs a webcam (and DH will also fit it and get it working) so that they can chat when DH goes away (off abroad for 6 months soon).

As for DH...maybe one of those watches that tell you how far you have cyled/ skied - think they have a GPS. He got a sat nav last year and loved it (so do I!)

Just seen comment about weather station - yes we have one of those and he loves it. Great for weather nerds. Infact my Dad liked it so much he bought one for himself. Shame really - it would have been an option for Xmas.

Funny about Dewalt as that was what we got my dad last year. He asked for it though - didn't think of it ourselves. He has loved it!

choosyfloosy -FAB book! will order a few i think! Thanks for that!

Most succesful presents for DP have been:

Leatherman
bike stuff
tickets for gigs (music or comedy)

Heated · 12/10/2009 23:01

But what's the point of a weatherstation?

MrsJiggle86 · 12/10/2009 23:09

i always get dh a soft toy, which i then nick off him a couple of weeks later as he doesnt touch it, im making up to him this year with a psp, hes very excited, bless him lol

mamalovesmojitos · 13/10/2009 10:06

whomovedmychocolate that book looks quite good! think i'll be putting it on my presents list, thanks.

Littlepurpleprincess · 13/10/2009 13:42

My Dad loves Double Lollies so I've got a big glass jar and ordered loads of double lollies to fill it with.

Itunes vouchers go down well with teenage brothers.

I have no idea what to get DP.

girlywhirly · 13/10/2009 17:01

One year my colleagues and I were stumped as to what to buy our boss, and then I noticed he used to go most afternoons to the vending machine to get a Twix. We bought lots of bags of the singly wrapped Twix and piled them all into a Christmas present bag. He loved it! Said it was the best present he'd ever had.

nosferartifartu · 13/10/2009 20:44

Heated - aaaah, there is no point to a weather station - that's their infinite joy! You simply 'see what the weather is like' and, if like my Dad, 'compare it to last year's on the same day' and tell everyone about it until their eyes glaze over. It's probably a bit like memorizing all the different types of Mazda...a man thing...

robino · 13/10/2009 20:55

Ooh, thank you - you have inspired me! Barometer. Not a hi-tech weather station, I'll grant you but OH is obsessed with the blooming things. Can't walk past one without tapping it. This happens fairly often as his mum and some good friends have one (her OH is as geeky as mine!)

OH has also asked for some cologne. Any recommendations?

tassisssss · 15/10/2009 15:37

oooh, robino, you've reminded me that dh really wants a barometer, think i might get him one

as WW's said, dh's top Christmas gift last year was a subsctiption to BBC focus mag, my poor parents will be buying it for him forever more! he loves it. I think lots of guys would.

StrictlyAvadaKedavraarrrrghhhh · 15/10/2009 17:08

A weather station!! Thank you!! Have been wracking my brain for something for DH other than a Private Eye subscription. I can picture him now, making up spreadsheets of the days weather, it'll keep him amused for hours [geek]

Heated · 15/10/2009 20:55

My Dad likes tapping his barometer and look knowing; the weather station would just be another gadget to find a socket for

What else are people buying their dh's?

ja9 · 15/10/2009 21:24

ok ok ... would someone please link me to a cool barometer / weather thingy

ja9 · 15/10/2009 21:26

what do you call those glass tubes with little glass bobbles bobbing up and down inside... are they barometers?

SixtyFootDoll · 15/10/2009 21:28

LAst year I got DH a years suscription to NAtional Geographic that wennt down well
I a dad, 2 brothers, 2 sons and 4 uncle to buy for, nightmmare!

robino · 15/10/2009 22:34

I've just won a barometer on ebay! A fair bargain I thought and not too offensive on the eye.

tassisssss · 16/10/2009 13:43

ja9, dobbies used to do cool barometers, but I don't think they have them anymore. john lewis?

cuppateaplease · 16/10/2009 14:53

DH had an all singing all dancing type weather station last year - tells you wind speed, rain fall, predicted weather and keeps an electronic memory of the rainfall etc which can be downloaded to a computer!
hey ho - keeps him amused.
this year he's getting an aifix model of saturn 5 rocket as its the anniversary year. well at least it will keep him quiet for a while!

TitsalinaBumsquash · 16/10/2009 15:02

DP isnt to bad, there is always some new game for the Playstation he wants or a DVD or something.

My Dad is a blardy nightmare to buy for, he like VW Beetles but how much Beetle things can you buy one man?! He has them in gold/silver/chocolate..... he is destined to a lifetime of Jumpers and Socks!

BILS all get a HMV voucher which i know is a total copout but my brain just gets really tired thinking up things for them each year, i would rather them buy themselves something they actually like than having me chhose a bizzare or naff gadget.

TitsalinaBumsquash · 16/10/2009 15:03

My sister however loves Jelly Beand so i have brought her an actual bucket full of them, she is pregnant and will get very tearfull over the thought that went into that one
