I havn't got a clue what to get dd1, she already has a huge playmobil collection which i don't really want to add too, she's not very girly, she would love a Wii but i would rather wait until she is older. What are you buying your 5-6 year olds?

DD2 is getting a cooking set in small size for her birthday (Nov). Silicone whisk, spatulas, measuring cups, mixing bowl etc as she loves cooking.

I am going down the desk route for christmass too. A nice desk and chair to do all her crafty stuff. And books. you can never have too many books.

Myy mum got my dd (5 in jan) and twin ds the last cherry stores (rose petal cottage shop) in argos today!
Other grandparents are getting them cheap digital cameras as they have been admiring their friend's one for ages.
We are getting her cheap rollerskates (fifi ones from boots online, bug hunting kit, more lego(ebay), torch and hama beads- all at her request.
She's not getting a fur real pony or a kitten or lots of chocolate -her other ideas!
Uncle getting twins the roald dahl collection from book people and other getting them basketball hoop and ball from argos.
Can you tell that my relatives like to be told what to get - I've prepared in advance this year!

Also if it helps ds1 is 7 but has aspergers and his current obsession is peppa pig which we have far too much of already.

We are getting him a guiness book of records, a horrible practical joke kit (his sense of humour is basic and like his dads!) think whoopee cushion s and plastic poo, pads and gloves to wear on his skateboard as he falls off a lot, a new peppa dvd, and can't think of anything else.
He doesn't get the idea of christmas and when his gran asked what he might like he listed what he got last year. She'll get him a camera like the twins will get.
He also doesn't have many interests bar his obsessions.
He likes new clothes so other relatives get him them-as long as they're blue he's happy.
A real success last year was a soft toy classroom that folds up into a carry case- it has 2 rag dolls in uniform, a playground, desks and so on. He found it great in the hols to renact school- he misses it!It's in a soft pink case but I don't know where my mum got it from.
We also got him tickets to the places he likes last year - so the waterpark and the snow centre - filled up the xmas hols too.

DD will be 6.4 at Christmas and she will be getting lots of books, colouring and sticking things and I have bought her a Suduko puzzle book and a wordsearch pad. That is it so far.

I've also got my DD some Clarice Bean books, (which she loves), and the Laura Ingalls Wilder 'Little House in the Big Woods', on the recommendation of other MN'ers.

We watched the 'little house on the prairie' mini series type thing and my DD is convinced that everyone is America is in mortal danger from mountain lions every time they step out of their door

MrsMonkfish - how do you find Clarice for 6 year olds (ish)? DD1 read them, but was about 10, I think. I have since seen them in the large 'Charlie and Lola'ish format but not really looked at them. I think DD1 would like them if they aren't too wordy.

My favourite book is the Lauren Child version of Goldilocks that I bought hardback last year. It has the best pictures and such a witty story. Will look for a link.

The best re-told story ever!

MrsMonkfishToYou · 03/10/2009 10:04

Sourdough - my DD is 5 and she has 3 Clarice Bean books at the mo and loves them. I have to read them to her obviously. They are very like the Charlie and Lola ones but more wordy. I wouldn't say they are too wordy though as my DD has a limited attention span but is spellbound by these. The illustrations are great as well. I suppose that helps.

I just 'won' 3 more Clarice Beans on ebay yesterday. Father Christmas is getting stocked up!

My DD has all the little ladybird fairy stories and she loves Goldilocks. That Lauren Child one looks great. I can see DH's credit card might get an airing today
