Grr. My Mum ordered a toy kitchen from Early Learning for DD back in November. DH and I stupidly never checked it and lo and behold it is badly cracked when she opened it today. Will we be able to exchange without a receipt?
And does anyone know if the stores are open tomorrow? TIA

elc are very good on customer service imo
they have a no quibbles money back policy - plus you don't need a receipt for faulty goods i don't think

Thanks. She was such a poppet, I felt dreadful.

Sale of Goods Act ought to get you an exchange, receipt or not. DP went in the other day to toysrus without a receipt but with a bank statement for when he'd paid for some toys and cited the Act at them - worked a treat! Shouldn't be necessary though

Snap Puzz, we had same with dd's dressing table from elc. I felt awful for not checking, and she said "Why did Santa bring me a broken one?!" DH is hardier than I am and pointed out the mountains of other stuff, but it was her main present from us, and of course in the biggest box- v important to a 3yo! Will be ringing tomorrow, think I know where invoice is but happy to hear I won't need it.

Oh bless her. I hope they replace it quickly for you.

You don't need a receipt to return a faulty item, but they can ask for proof of purchase. ELC are normally good for returns, so I don't think you'll have a problem.

You don't need either a receipt or a proof of purchase. If its faulty they have to refund or exchange, your choice.

rach345 · 28/12/2008 01:09

depending on the shop you got it from because it is a gift you might be able to exchange it. Most places if you dont have a reciept then they wont give the money back but will exchange it.

ladymariner, I'm sure you're right, but I thought (after watching watchdog) that you can return a faulty item without a receipt, BUT if the item can be returned to a variety of stores (ie. mothercare/ toysrus/ elc), then they can ask for proof of purchase so the store won't be out of pocket

see "here"

Didn't know that. I always thought that if you returned it to the store it was purchased from they had to accept it and chase it up themselves with the suppliers. I did a long time in customer services but that was eight years ago, I've just stuck to the rules as they were then!!! Probably done shops out of thousands since then
