How much would you pay for homemade mince pies and mincemeat?

Have 85 pies and 13 jars of mincemeat to sell at a Christmas fair today!

What would you say was a fair price for homemade mince pies and jars of mincemeat?

Thanks, hoping I'll make back my money for the cause...

I bought some mincemeat at a farmers market recently and think it was 2.50. I would think 2.00-2.50 would be acceptable but it probably depends on where you are and whether there is a market for it - many people would happily buy ready-made pies from a supermarket at 6 for 85p or whatever...

I think we have previously sold mince pies + mulled wine for 1.50 at our school but the pies weren't necessarily home-made.

Maybe 50p for a mincepie?

hth

I went in a church Cafe yesterday and they were selling a mince pie, on a plate for 85p.

What sort of Christmas fair... school event, public market type thing? I think pricing may depend on the type of visitor.
Who gets the profits - is it for charity? Visitors may pay more if they know the profits are going to charity.
What about left-overs... do you need to sell them all, or are you happy to take them home again?

You could sell them for 50p each (or 3 for a £1 - BTGOF) to start with. See how it goes, then vary your offer.

Hard to know for the jars... have you costed out how much they cost to make?

depends how big the mince pies are.

I sold my minni mince pies for 20p each last week - if they were bigger I'd say no more than about 35/40p tbh.

mincemeat probably no more than about £1.50 a jar.

wannaBe · 20/12/2008 10:35

the most expensive mincemeat on tescos is tescos finest at £1.96. But everything else is miles cheaper, from as little at 75p. In fact robertsons is being sold at two for £1.50.

so I would imagine that £1.50 is probably your upper most limit, with £1 being a more likely price.

nannyL · 20/12/2008 10:39

i would sooner buy a jar of home made mincemeat than tesco finest

(I have used tesco finest for my mince pies thisyear and ate some lastnight, yum)

anyway i think home made beats tesco finest so would charge £2

I think 25p - 30p for a mice pie.... maybe 30p each, 4 for £1?

nannyL · 20/12/2008 10:39

make that a mince ratehr than a 'mice' pie

ooh, quite a lot of variation.

it's at a foodie fair in Bristol, so prob could price quite high. Might wait and see what other prices are like...

it's fundraising for the WI so is a charity.

might charge 50p per pie, and £2.50 for a jar of mincemeat. Actually they're differet size jars so might do £3 for large and £2 for small or something.

does that sound reasonable?

Sounds reasonable to me. You can always reduce prices after a while if things aren't shifting. Make a selection of price labels, so you can switch prices as and when needed.

Hey, i was thinking of selling mince pies over the xmas period to make a bit of extra money. They’d be 100% homemade (pastry and mince meat); boxes of 6 or 12; option for crumble top or brandy butter or plain. I must say they are the best mince pies i’ve ever had, and a lot of people have said the same.
I follow a lot of food pages and they sell 6 cupcakes for around £12, but for some reason it seems steep selling mince pies for that expensive, but they do take a long time to make and I want to make a profit. What do you think is a fair price? (I think most people would be happy to pay more than supermarket pricing knowing that someone has made them themselves?).
