Christmas cake, can I ice it straight after marzipanning?

That's it really. This is only the second year that've made a christmas cake and last year I distinctly remember being told to wait 24hours between marzipanning and icing but this year I really haven't got the time and I'd like to ice it tonight.

I've used white marzipan and I'll be using ready to roll icing if that makes any difference.

Thanks

You can, but you run the risk of the marzipan not being really dried out. That can lead to some oil from the marzipan seeping into the icing and discolouring it. If you don't mind that, it shouldn't be a problem.

Oh now I remember . I'm supposed to leave it uncovered aren't I?

It should be fine. Afterall, they are all nice ingredients and nothing terrible will happen - it just might not be quite textbook.

I think I always used to wait, but that was with runny glace icing. You should be all right if it's rollable icing - less likely to be a problem with it being white as well.

Ok, thanks everyone, I'm going to go for it tonight.

Hope it looks ok!
