did you see the thing on the tv a while ago (maybe a morning news programme) that basically said charity gift giving at christmas (like a cow/goat/tools etc) was insulting and a waste of our money - should just give money instead to the charity. Buying a 'poor' person a goat or tools is insulting as they have aspirations too and giving them tools is degrading as they hope for more in life than that. They simply lack money, not ambition and have high hopes also.
Spokesperson who was saying all this was asked didn't the charities consult the 'poor' people before they came up with the selection of gifts and answered of course they said they did, but in the end money to the charity would be better.
Anyone else see this.
I agree - if someone gave me a goat, I' not sure how happy I'd be...........
