I think if anyone deserves wine it's a reception teacher !

cornsilk · 18/12/2008 10:05

Definitely!

notnowbernard · 18/12/2008 10:15

Cheers. Wine it is

(Katie, I personally think they deserve hard liquor )

Wine for teachers here too. Have been watching the tins of biscuits/chocs etc come piling in all week and felt there was only so much shortbread our reception teacher could stomach

ElectraInExcelsis · 18/12/2008 18:43

Yes

MoMoMoMeeeeryChristmas · 18/12/2008 18:45

Not arf! It works for me, anyway!

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 18/12/2008 18:46

it's a fantastic idea. Though Dd's teacher today was depressed at all the wine she was given as she's 5 months preggers (she's really missing it ). Luckily dd bought her a Jane Asher big chocolate cake mix for her to bake.

Beachcomber · 18/12/2008 18:48

Yes, my sister teaches primary and whilst very appreciative of all the mugs, candles etc she gets every year from nice parents she would infinitely prefer a bottle of wine.

She has hundreds of mugs.

ChristmasDisco · 18/12/2008 18:51

err yes. We got wine for DD1's teacher and 2 TA's and DD2's teacher and 2 TA's. Oh and the school secretary cos she's had to help out with various messages over the last year.

notevenamousie · 18/12/2008 19:05

And nursery staff???
Assume the same applies?

notnowbernard · 18/12/2008 19:09

For nursery staff I gave Chocolates as there were so many staff - they probably divvied them out

I gave DD's (can't think of the word...keyworker? No, that's community care, but you get my drift) a £10 Topshop voucher as I suspect it was illegal for her to have alcohol

wine is always good

Mind you I was dead impressed with dds teacher last year who gave the parent-helpers wine for Christmas to say thank you. It was very appreciated.

BigusBumus · 18/12/2008 19:15

I always give those little bottles of wine that are the size you get on aeroplanes. (Pinot Grigio from M&S). As there are 4 staff in DS's Year 1 class its alot cheaper then big bottles and they always look really grateful and tell me they drink it as soon as they get home that evening! Hadn't thought of school secretary before, thanks Christmasdisco! She will get one too!

notevenamousie · 18/12/2008 19:17

There are only 3- tis a tiny nursery, less than 15 children in total. Maybe chocolates, should they be homemade?? Can you tell, is my first time too!

nailpolish · 18/12/2008 19:17

a diary is a good pressie at this time of year if you fancy a change from wine or chocs

i did that one time dds nursery teacher was pg at xmas time

gerbo · 18/12/2008 19:19

As a Nursery teacher, I can say YES YES YES!!! She will be very grateful. Much better than some dodgy smellies she will never ever use.

Smithagain · 18/12/2008 20:34

Yes, as long as you know they are not tee-total.

iheartdusty · 18/12/2008 21:18

last year for non-drinkers I got lovely bottles of fancy fizzy fruit stuff from M&S. they probably have something similar this year.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 18/12/2008 22:30

I always get wine for our nursery and school teachers. The first year I did it, I'd seen the kind of subtle inner sigh as yet another box of chocs got opened, and a few seconds later, the teachers' eyes lit up when they saw the bottle=shaped presents. In that moment, I knew it was the way to go for every end of year and Xmas pressie for evermore!

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake: how thick are the parents in your DD's class if they're buying a pregnant woman alcohol?! Or isn't she that visibly pregnant?

SnowMuchToBits · 18/12/2008 22:48

It depends. I didn't get wine for ds's reception teacher, as I knew she didn't drink alcohol. But for his year 1 teacher I did, as I knew she loved the stuff!

I think it would only be a problem if a) they don't drink or were pregnant, or b) you bought really crap wine.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 18/12/2008 23:18

Even if they don't drink themselves, it's Christmas time, so it's more than likely to get opened in their house at some time over the festive period - by visiting family or friends etc.

Unlike chocolates....by Boxing Day everyone seems to end up with about 6 boxes of chocolates each, someone opens a box and tries desperately to hand 'em round, with an "aren't I generous - sharing?" look on their face. Then everyone except the dog will suck their breath in threw their teeth and say "oooh, not for me, thanks!"

Trizelda · 19/12/2008 08:41

Definately yes
