Ds was a Richard Scarry fanatic at that age - I like them too (which is a relief important)

He also loved the Walker Books 'Read and Wonder' series - you can get them in lovely batches of bargainry from eg Red House and here you are

Almost all of the above plus

Lost & Found by Oliver Jeffers
How To Catch a Star by Oliver Jeffers

The illustrations are beautiful and the story very simple but meaningful

Another vote here for the Tiger Who Came to Tea - I read it to my friend's boys (3 and 7) last night and they demanded an encore! The pop-up version is just lovely.

For The Tiger Who Came To Tea lovers............ I took my DTs to see the stage show, its lovely! Its a quick 45 minutes but very well done and follows the book precisely. The tiger is fab.

I used to read that book to my little brother. He'd be sitting on my knee and asking for it over and over again. He's 29 in a fortnight Its a story that my 3 children love to and so stands the test of time magnificently. Its 40 years old.
