I am thinking of giving my wonderful cleaner cash and a bottle of wine. For those who are too lazy, slovenly, or busy lucky enough to have a cleaner, what/how much do you give them at Christmas?

OP posts:

I gave her a couple of bags of ecofuel wood pellets. Weird I know, but her house runs off a coal fire and she was keen to try the pellets out.

duchesse · 19/12/2008 16:33

Oh, and a week's pay.

sagacious · 19/12/2008 16:38

a new duster an a bottle of cif

donnie · 19/12/2008 16:40

double pay and some bath stuff, sanctuary or similar.

ByThePowerOfBaileys · 19/12/2008 16:41

I have mine a £30 bonus = just under 2 weeks money

Litchick · 19/12/2008 16:42

Double pay and a bottle of booze.

FattipuffsandThinnifers · 19/12/2008 16:50

I've just got ours a huge box of Celebrations, and will give her double pay.

Lol at duster and cif

DesperateHousewifeToo · 19/12/2008 16:53

I'm so mean.

Was only the 3rd week for my cleaner today. She comes togther with someone else and was only second time I have met the other woman to day as last week another helper came, iyswim.

Anyway, gave them both a card with a fiver in.

Previous cleaner always got a bag of designer-type smellies but I don't feel as though I know this one yet.

TheYearOfTheCat · 19/12/2008 16:54

Wow, Duchesse, no-one can say your gift isn't practical

duchesse · 19/12/2008 16:56

Ooh, do you it's too practical? I gave her a bottle of homemade sloe gin the first year, which she seemed rather underwhelmed by, and a tin of choccy biccies last year, which seemed rather dull, so I thought I'd get her something she'd said she wanted this year...

Turniphead1 · 19/12/2008 17:12

£70 in M&S vouchers and a bottle of wine.

TheYearOfTheCat · 19/12/2008 17:28

Duchesse, I think it's a lovely pressie, really. It makes me smile. Have you given it to her yet?

Bathsheba · 19/12/2008 19:34

I got mine a lovely scented candle and a nice photo frame....

TheVirginGoober · 19/12/2008 19:45

I gave mine a framed picture of me.

southeastastra · 19/12/2008 19:47

a wii

TheVirginGoober · 19/12/2008 19:48

JOKE!

I am a cleaner, today I got 2 wrapped gifts for myself, and a gift for each of my 3 kids. The lady I clean for is a very good friend. We use her caravan in the summer, DD walks her dogs and I cut her DHs hair.

I also gave them both presents.

Podrick · 19/12/2008 19:53

I don't have a cleaner. My mum gives hers double pay and a handmade gift that has taken her hours and hours and hours. This goes down well

muggglewump · 19/12/2008 19:54

I shit on the floor so she can put her skills to work in the job she clearly loves.
I'm good to the staff.
In previous years I've given the Nanny my friends kids with nits and the Gardener an extra English Setter who uses the garden too

VirginBoffinMum · 19/12/2008 20:10

I give mine a John Lewis hamper, and she gets 4 weeks a year holiday pay. She's a great person, very good at what she does, and makes a big difference to our lives.

BaDaBing · 19/12/2008 20:30

Ivykaty44 · 19/12/2008 20:32

I went and got her a lovely new handbag - I just know she will love it and I have sent it to be wraped up and have the tag written with

To ivykaty44

lots of love at christmas thanks for doing such a good job all year

Love IK44

xx

ScottishMummy · 19/12/2008 20:44

given that the cleaner is me,shall i reward myself at the clinique counter

muggglewump · 20/12/2008 01:21

Sent it to be wrapped up?
Have the tag written?

Don't you write them then? The people I know accept the bad wrapping, the cards bought at the last minute but they appreciate I buy myself.

My CM will love her flowers that are sorted on the day of me giving them. If not then tough, I don't get, nor will I participate in buying, and buying, and buying just so enough money has been spent.

mamhaf · 20/12/2008 08:29

Feel that I didn't give extra pay.

Ours is hard to buy for - very health-conscious and doesn't eat chocs etc and I always think it's hard to choose toiletries for someone when you don't know what they really like.

So I bought one of those lavender wheat bags that go in the microwave. Not sure if she'll like it though.

DesperateHousewifeToo · 20/12/2008 12:09

Mugglewump, I think Ivykaty means that as she is the cleaner in her house, she has bought herself a handbag

Great idea
