I was asked this morning by ds 6 think we may be thinking a little more deeply about this [sob]
Apparantly the santa at school party was different to the one at church!
Then he asked if mums and dads were santa I said no !!

Naturally santa is far too busy in the run up to Christmas to get round everyone himself - so yes he has Santa helpers to find out what children want and whether they've been good or not - doesn't matter how many you see.

Of course on occasion it's the real one just checking up .

AMIStletoekiss · 16/12/2008 10:12

I think (now he's old enough) you should admit to him that Santa has helpers so that he doesn't do all of the schools and shops himself. But you never know for sure which is the real one, and they all report back...

singyswife · 16/12/2008 10:14

Agree with previous poster. This is what we tell our dd's too and they beleive it,. We went to see santa on sunday and my dd (7) said 'I am taking my list and am going to give it to the santa helper so he can tell the real santa'. Of course santa is too busy watching children to see if they are good to be going different places.

TeenyTinyTorya · 16/12/2008 10:31

Yes, Santa can't do everything himself - he has plenty of helpers d

purpleduckUnderTheMistletoe · 16/12/2008 10:35

We have always told ours that the shopping mall/school/church Santa is a HELPER - the real Santa is far too busy making toys etc to be everywhere.

It stops the "But mummy, why did Santa look like so and so's Grandad???"

ChestnutsRoastingonanOpenFlier · 16/12/2008 10:46

at our toddler christmas party last week, I asked a friends dd what she got from the santa at the party. her reply "he's not santa, he's just a man", so i said "thats right, he's one of santas helpers" and she said "no he's not". She is not yet 4

AMIStletoekiss · 16/12/2008 12:28

It's one of the many difficulties with the whole FC thing - people tell their children slightly different things, and they are quick to spot the inconsistencies....

Kathyis6incheshigh · 16/12/2008 12:34

My dd is quite happy with the idea that sometimes people pretend to be Father Christmas. Whenever she sees one she looks very hard and decides if he's the real one or someone pretending.

dearprudence · 16/12/2008 12:37

My Dad is going to be Father Christmas at DS's school this week. DS is 6 and I don't know whether to tell him that it's his grandad or not.

May I briefly hijack to throw this question into the mix?

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 16/12/2008 12:41

dh had to be Father Christmas 2 years ago at the school fair when we had a shortage. We did prewarn dd.

Of course Father Christmas has loads of helpers. Hes far too busy to be sat in garden centres and schools across the world.

TheVirginGoober · 16/12/2008 12:42

Sants is way too busy at the moment to be everywhere so he senda lookalikes out to the fairs/ shops to hear what the children need this year. These stand-ins still need to know everything that the real Santa does in order for him to relay the info to Santa.

ChippyMyrrhton · 16/12/2008 12:46

Yes, of course Santa has helpers. He is busy supervising the elves at the North Pole and saving his energy for the big journey on Christmas Eve.
The helpers are officially sanctioned and are not allowed to have reindeer or sleighs, in case of accidents on the public roads.

Anna8888 · 16/12/2008 12:48

Babar and Father Christmas is very helpful when dealing with the issue of FC not being able to be in all places at one time

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 16/12/2008 13:30

Phew so i can eliminate that question then thanks!!
Of course santa needs helpers!
And am standing resolute on the 'it's definately not mummys and daddys but the 'real' santa on xmas eve !!!
I am sure at 6 i had no idea or inclination to question where or why!
Typically last night i had just been telling someone he hadn't asked any questions and all was good!

Thanks Anna will look at that.

Prudence i think i would prewarn just in case.

I had to explain to my DD about his helpers, as she recognised the santa at the school fayre as being the gardener at school, she recognised his voice. She's 4.4

Tommy · 16/12/2008 14:47

my 5 and 6 year olds are very happy about the Father Christmasses you see at shops, church fetes etc is not the real one.

The real one comes to your house on Christmas Eve. The other ones are people dressed up

flatmouse · 16/12/2008 14:49

Having taken my kids to Lapland a couple of years ago when they were 6 and 3, they decided themselves that the ones they see out and about (at school, at fetes etc) are his helpers because he is too busy getting ready for Christmas.... they know this because they have see then real one.

RustyBear · 16/12/2008 14:57

Yes, and to nick Wilfself's great line - they are Subordinate Clauses....

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 16/12/2008 20:07

No mention of it after school so have left well alone and am prepared for next time.
I was both and this am as was completely unprepared !!

themulledmanneredjanitor · 16/12/2008 20:09

god yes-all the ones they see out and about are not the real one. fc is far too busy at this time of year.

and the red suitetc is what we THINK he looks like as noone really knows as we don't see him.

Hulababy · 16/12/2008 20:11

FC definitely has helpers. 6y DD is very aware of that. She thinks it would be impossible for him to be in all these grottos all oe he world, and sorting things out for Christmas. DD says it is his elves and other helpers who are doing the grottos, to help FC out.

Infact we are at Centre Parcs at the moment and DD went to see FC today. When she came out, having had a lovely time she whispered to me (quietly as 2y niece was there) that it couldn;t have been the real FC - there were 4 doors when she went in the first room, and she says there were probably 4 helpers helping ihim out

However, she very much believes that there IS a real FC.

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 16/12/2008 20:32

I didn't realise it was going to become 'complicated' but i am not ready to go down the non believing route yet!
Will just have to think more about this!

psychohohohoho · 16/12/2008 20:36

oh yes..........santa has lots of helpers so that he can ensure proper reading of the naughty/nice list, and make sure that the north pole is not over-fun by a rogue plastic santa (have you not seen 'the santa clause 2??? explains it very well).

tis the same as sometimes santa trusts mums and dads to buy some of the pressies in.....(for such times when they find the gifts hidden in the wardrobe).
