I'm not sure candy canes count when you can buy a box for 99p in Wilkinsons!

homemade paper chains made from beautiful wrapping paper

retro pastel coloured fairy lights

JackieNoCribForABed · 16/12/2008 09:54

Strings of real dried fruit, and spices, like cinnamon sticks, and dried bits of orange, and chillis.

Botbot · 16/12/2008 09:57

popcorn

felt hearts

JackieNoCribForABed · 16/12/2008 10:01

Anything Shaker style, and distressed (like these), though I have to say, that's the sort of style I like .

katch · 16/12/2008 10:01

Why mock people who try to make things look nice?

I keep reading threads about 'mean girls' lately, and this sort of thing perpetuates the 'let's laugh at everyone who doesn't do things the way we do' culture.

I'm a lazy old cow but I make half-hearted attempts occasionally, which are always much appreciated by my DCs.

Get a life.

Tortington · 16/12/2008 10:02

would you dry your own fruit - like on the Radiator?!

Tortington · 16/12/2008 10:03

oooh harsh there katch - is it judgey?

i have paperchains and homemade snowflakes

strings of dried smelly stuff sounds great - how do you do it?

JackieNoCribForABed · 16/12/2008 10:30

I'm really only gently mocking myself, Katch - I like this kind of stuff . Custy, I think probably in a low oven, for ages (haven't done it, though - just seen in mags/catalogues).

JackieNoCribForABed · 16/12/2008 10:32

How to make them. Do you have an Aga, Custy? I think they're de rigeur .

katch · 16/12/2008 11:51

Sorry suffered a SOH loss.

(I have an Aga, and I can reveal you wash the slices in Milton, the leave them overnight on the Aga lid (on a teatowel or a matching Aga protective cover).

SheherazadetheGoat · 16/12/2008 11:53

not having tinsel (includes self i hate tinsel)

JackieNoCribForABed · 16/12/2008 11:56

@ you having an Aga. Our cooker is one like this. As un-bunting and cupcake as you can get, I suspect .

Botbot · 16/12/2008 12:22

I am gently mocking too. I have Cath Kidston teatowels, for god's sake. Though I do have lots of tinsel too.

mrsmaidamess · 16/12/2008 12:33

I'm TODALLY Cath'd up this Christmas.

I have just finished pressing my bargainous 19p teatowels from Ikea which look like something The White Company would sell. I shall be using them on the 25th as napkins.

Agree, we wouldn't mock ch*vs at Christmas, lets not mock us heart shaped distressed painted zinc enamelled ticking loving gals.
