Buying a watch for my little 4 year old niece who is into 'brand' names (or rather, parents are).

Is this old? Better to go for Barbie?

all the 8 yr old girls in DSs class are maad on it

cherryontopofthexmastree · 15/12/2008 22:07

probably a bit old- my dd1 is nearly four and doesnt even know what hannah montana and hsm are! would say for about 6-10 year olds. barbie or disney princess would be much better.

Dottoressa · 15/12/2008 22:09

My DD is 4.5 and has never heard of Hanna Montana or HSM. She likes My Little Pony, though!

neenztwinz · 15/12/2008 22:10

My niece is 4 and loves Hannah Montana and HSM - but she has a sister who is 6 so may be into it because of her.

They love Barbie too

PavlovtheRedNosedReindeer · 15/12/2008 22:10

Thanks - I did think so, but did not want to not buy it, then find out she is really into it lol! I will go for disney...she is bound to be into all that...

Oh god....I am so not in touch with all this...is this all unavoidable? DD is happily innocent of most commercial stuff, she could not care less - all trains are 'thomas' to her, and all her dolls are whatever tv character she is thinking of at the time...she is 2...is this going to change ?

Oh Dottoressa - she loves My Little Pony - I bought her a set for her birthday and she loved it! Lets see if I can get a watch with it on....

Is Peppa Pig too young? DD would love it, but she cannot tell the time! lol

Can you not ask your brother/sister what your niece likes? That's what I do for Christmas/birthdays.

I think if you can keep kids away from TV then they won't necessarily get into HSM etc but then once they go to school you've had it

PavlovtheRedNosedReindeer · 15/12/2008 22:18

I did, they say 'oh she will like anything you get her' 'she is not fussy' 'she loves girly things' and in a broad north yorkshire accent SIL says 'oooooor don't worreh bout gettin out pet, they got plenty already, some hair clips will do her fine' LOL!!!

My DD says Peppa is too young for her now (more's the pity!! I love Peppa!!!)

I think it is possible not to end up saturated in all this stuff. My DS is 6.5 and hasn't got a clue what HSM is (or even what a Power Ranger or Batman is) - despite having been at school for 1.5 years. He liked the Teletubbies when he was a toddler, but we never had much other than a Teletubby colouring book and a plastic Teletubbyland to put in the bath.

I think DD might be keener on all the commercial stuff as she's much more of a follower. She's started school now, so we shall see. I am hoping we'll avoid it, but fear she'll be doubly commercial to make up for her brother!!

cherryontopofthexmastree · 15/12/2008 22:21

like i said dd1 is nearly 4 (march) and adores peppa pig- she has just about every peppa pig item ever bought out- the house, the rocket, bedcovers, pants, socks, pyjamas etc....

PavlovtheRedNosedReindeer · 15/12/2008 22:26

I love Peppa Pig - I find myself going around singing Peeeepa PIG Oink LOLOL . I have to stop myself sometimes as I realise I am at work

The window is sooooooooo narrow isn't it? I can't find a watch that I like. I am now stuck for what to buy her
