How about, I really don't need anything.

If there is nothing on a wish list. We don't buy for each other.

This year, DH can not think of anything he would like, so DS will get him crossword book, and I will probably get him a soduku book.

Over and above that, it becomes crass commercialism. IMO

Penthesileia · 14/12/2008 21:18

Elemis stuff? It's lovely. Er, lots of lovely books? Unusual jewellery? Nice dress? Shoes?

These are the kinds of things I usually ask for!

I am also pimping my DD's ride with a sheepskin footmuff & cup-holder! [sad git]

Ask him to get you something that you wouldn't buy yourself, a real treat. (remember to keep the receipt!)

OK the truth is would love a Wii but DH isn't keen. Other than that really haven't been able to think about myself snce DD (SAD I KNOW) just don't feel the same abut stuff and just buy stuff or her - thank god going back to work on jan 7th.

Would like some pamering type stuff not sure he'sgo for this though

I know exactly what Bree means - I can't think of anything I need/want, so DP and I are just buying a few things for the kids, getting a nice tree, having a lovely meal, having the mil over

Oh, and getting a few bottles of champagne (DP is having an operation on New Years Eve)

JodieO · 14/12/2008 21:32

Surely though Bree a wish list is just that; a wish list? It's not something that's needed so anything over and above a need shouldn't be bought anyway by that logic. I don't think buying something for someone shows commercialism and unless you only ever buy things you need then you're subscribing to your own criticisms.

LoveBeingAMummyKissingSanta · 14/12/2008 21:47

I hate having to do a list wish he'd just think of something himself don't care what just something with some thought around it.

I would have thought the point of a wish list is that it has things on it that you want, not need. It is only crass commercialism if there is nothing you want and you still get presents.

Also, it doesn't matter what the giver wants - that isn't the spirit of Christmas either. If you want a Wii (and you family has the money) then the fact that your DH doesn't want it shouldn't come into it. He should get you the Wii.

However, since you need to focus on yourself a bit how about a spa day before you go back to work?

KatieDD · 14/12/2008 21:57

I had a voucher for the local spa place for a facial and manicure when DD was 1 which I thought was rubbish on Christmas day itself and a complete waste, however when I dragged myself to actually have them done it was fantastic. DH babysat all day and it was so nice to enjoy a coffee and a book afterwards too, in fact that was the best bit.

LoveBeingAMummyKissingSanta · 14/12/2008 21:59

Oh yes a spa day would be fab.....or a hedgecutter for my eyebrows which haven't been done since I was preggers eckk

I'm looking for a new job atm and I've asked for one of these

TheVirginGoober · 14/12/2008 22:02

I am having kitchenny things as I don't need anything for self and the kitchen is my playroom anyway.

LoveBeingAMummyKissingSanta · 14/12/2008 22:07

That's so cool (no really I'm 32), but about the only thing I have bought for myself since DD is a fab bag from monsoon, massive and green (fav colour at mo), justified this as my cheapo pre-baby bags aren't big enough for outings and my one big one broken.

Did manage to give my mum a few ideas (she asked first) nothing exciting, mascara, spoon rest and a potatoe ricer to name a couple of egs. How exciting is my life!!!!

Notreallycutoutforthis · 14/12/2008 22:10

I have too many bags

SweetApril · 14/12/2008 22:15

Vouchers for eyebrow threading. Sounds boring feels flipping fantastic when it's been done. I know the feeling of never finding time to do your brows. Cheaper than a hedgecutter too.

LoveBeingAMummyKissingSanta · 14/12/2008 22:17

Oh yes, a girl at work used to do this for me. In fact the last itme they were done they were threaded. I was preggers and blimey it hurt. why is it like that when your pregnant? Glad I wasn't have anywhere else defuzzed!!!!!

SweetApril · 14/12/2008 22:37

Ooh, well maybe you can get them done when you go back to work and then you can have your Wii for Xmas! Mind you, I'd probably pick a pampering treat - especially if you're getting a spoon rest DP bought me a massage treatment and tickets for us to go to the cinema last birthday - looked after DD while I had the massage and arranged the babysitter for the cinema trip - it was just fab.

fondant4000 · 14/12/2008 22:50

Spa day at Porchester Spa

Sex and the City dvd

A DAB radio (for the kitchen)

A gorgeous pair of shoes.

(All things I have asked for dh for in recent birthday/xmas presents).

Ninkynorkstuckinthexmastree · 14/12/2008 22:57

My DH will not buy scent as a present for me. He thinks that because it is an "everyday" thing, (and I do tend to use just two, winter and summer), it should just be bought in the same way that replacement socks are bought.

I deal with the money and always manage to convince him that yes, Chanel no 5 is a flippin' luxury FGS but if we did have money to spare, I'd consider getting my favourite scent in another form; bath gel, body lotion or powder for example.

starbear · 14/12/2008 23:43

I love books about decorating houses. I know I'll never own a large house but since I was a kid I like planning to have one. I know this is odd I loved it when my DH put loads of hooks in the shed for my gardening stuff.
I wish people would buy me plants to put in the garden. Also a mini glass house just about 4 shelves to grow a few seeds. Oh a good sun bed. Do you think I want it to be spring?
