Does it matter? Or should it really be sparkly?

She is really into trains, so we have bought her (hopefuly if it wins on ebay!) a brio/elc train set, with trains, and also with some fire engine/police/rubbish trucks.

She loves animals and outdoors and tractors, so we have bought her a toy tractor and a farmyard set (again if it wins on ebay).

We were also planning on getting her a 'Doctor' dressing up set as she loves being 'doctor'. I had considered getting a nurses one instead, but she is really not interested in nurse.

She is getting a fairy from a friend, so there is some girly there (don't know what rest of family are getting).

Do you think its too boy related? Its ok isn't it, as it is what she enjoys playing with?

Thanks Fennel just found a Brio first train set in boots which seems reasonable at £24 I think? Will check out the others too though thanks.

DD had a pirate ship for Christmas when she was 3, lego when she was 4, her 5th birthday party was pirates and princesses and she went as Captain Hook, and her favourite fancy dress costume is Peter Pan.

But I took her to the cinema on Saturday and she insisted on putting on "make up" and doing her hair.

Don't worry about it .

Boys toys/Girls toys really winds me up, if anything I think it has got more polarised since I was a child.

I wanted to get DS (2.5) some dolls house furniture as he loves playing with the dolls house at toddler group - however at ELC all their dolls house stuff is PINK and flowery. And hate the way that even things like torches etc come in pink or blue. Why do they need to be gender specific

Btw we have the IKEA train set, v reasonably priced and a big hit with toddlers of both genders

Fennel · 14/12/2008 21:37

I used to get things like blue torch for dd1, pink for dd2, til dd2 complained and wanted blue too. So now I avoid the shops with the blue/pink dichotemy, it's surprisingly easy once you get used to it. Lots of independent toy shops and online shops aren't nearly as bad as the big high st names.

tchibo still have some brio compatible train sets for about £15 IIRC - they are really good, you get a train, track, bridge etc. But only in store not on the website.

TrinityRhino · 14/12/2008 21:45

sounds great to me
you are getting her things she will enjoy
fwiw gecko is 1.10 and she is getting a race car track/chrashing thingy, pull back cars, a proper tonka dump truck, some crayola baby felt tips and a mini kitchen

she loves cars so that is what we bought her

I have bought a ELC set from ebay - plenty of track, one Thomas train, plus some (three) more, cool bridge, trees etc for 4.99 plus a tenner postage (and more than the one in ELC!) And then I bought a steam engine from ebay too! (M&S battery one). She has been on a steam train, so its only fitting. Its in good (not perfect) condition, but we thought, we at least have the tracks which are in good condition, and whatever else is not so good we can replace with new/perfect condition stuff. She wont notice either way! I also bought Thomas Series Chinese Dragon train, for a fortune, but that is for DDs cousin in USA, who we bought a train set for last year...he is half chinese so its fitting...But it might be a struggle to hand over though. I really like it!!!

There were some fantastic bargains on ebay, but I did not want 150 piece set, she is only 2.5!!!

I am very happy

(Drs = boys nurse = girls - not my opinion, the marketing of it, pictures of who is in it, nurses outfits being with skirts, that kind of thing)

My DD is 2.3 Pavlov, she loves them too. You got some bargains then! I can't wait to see DD's face when she gets hers, she always plays with them at the hospital or toddler groups so I'm sure it will keep her occupied. Btw she loves playing with cars or buggies as do a lot of the toddlers I know, it seems to me that they enjoy the being able to control them, move them about etc.
