This is quite an inane thread, humour me lol. So I seem to have spent loads on the dc's but I'm panicking because this year we don't seem to have the quantity of presents I am used to (I usually buy more tat).

Please slap me and tell me I'm an idiot for worrying and that quality is better than quantity.

Go and buy a bit of tat. Quality is good - but quantity is good too! Have a trawl round the charity shops - see what you can find.

You are an idiot

Oh - Seekers advice seems a tad better than mine

If you want the wow factor of lots of presents, see if you can break-up any you have bought. Eg. take a baby doll out of the box and wrap all of the accessories separately.

Also, buy things that you buy on a regular basis anyway - felt pens, play dough, paper etc.

Don't fret. There's an article in today's Times saying, basically, that parents need to relax and not worry if there's a bit less in the kitty this Christmas, because if you go round apologising for things not being as generous as other years, and worrying about this, then it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Relax and think what a wonderful, magical day it's going to be, and get your family into that mood - and it will be.

Hugs.

I think its fairly normal as they get older for the quantity to diminish, but some items might be more expensive.

BlackLetterDay · 13/12/2008 23:48

They are 6 and 2, thanks for your messages. Dd has a wii and a couple of games and a dolls house. Ds has a take along thomas set, a playmobil set with helicopter and boat and stuff and some cars with a road playmat thing.

I have ordered the playmobil plane but I'm not sure who to give it to tbh.

I dunno, I'm just crap at buying presents, wish I could take it all back and start again.

Got dd's wii ages ago, but can't really afford much else as the money is rapidly running out.

Thanks for the idea of wrapping things seperate, I will wrap the playmobil things individually.

They don't get much from family so it is gonna look a bit crap but theres plenty to play with.

I'll get them a few pound shop things and some books from the charity shop (toys seem to be expensive in the charity shops near me).

Its bizarre, I have spent about the same this year but usually have a huge pile

the older they get the more expensive/smaller the presents are. my best friend has a dd who is 9, i have got her a watch that she will love this year, but now its wrapped up it seems so little compared to the massive presents i used to get her a couple of years ago for the same price.

SniffyHock · 13/12/2008 23:59

Give the plane as a joint present - I always get mine something together which I think is nice.

BlackEyedDogstar · 14/12/2008 00:06

you sound really sweet. I'm going through the same thing.

Now ds will be getting some cheap random items to bulk out the main present: magnetic moustache man, modelling balloons, plastic helicopter tut, a flying screaming monkey... you get the picture. Christmas morning will be funny!
