Brothers-In-Law - Every year it's the same - What ON EARTH do you buy them????

I have 4 - one is getting a book token which he asked for. One is getting a NickelBack CD, which he asked for. The other 2, well I'm completely stuck. When asked one of them came back with "Oh just get me a Simpsons Calendar" which I point blank refuse to do. Any inspiration out there????

A Simpsons calendar?? What is he, 7 yrs old

I've just bought mine (have only met him once, at thewedding), a nice bottle of Barolo.

I've got Tshirts from here for the BILs this year. SIL has decreed a £10 per adult price limit which these almost make it into.

RhinestoneReindeerHerder · 11/12/2008 17:51

I leave it to DH to buy for BIL, not my responsibility - this year he has bought him some really strong magnets , worryingly he seems to think that SIL will enjoy them too...

However, I have 2 brothers myself, and never knew what to buy them. So now I just buy nice food as I know that at least it will be eaten and enjoyed, rather than a bit of tat that sits around cluttering up the place.

get one of those remote control helicopters!! he'll love it ( and they're a good price this year too!)

JustKeepSingingCarols · 11/12/2008 17:53

This year a book on Things a Dad Should Know - my sister recommended it & probably a car/motorbike magazine as well.
He's impossible to buy for!

And I used to send him and my sis a box of Thornton's every year until she recently told me he doesn't even like chocolate
She was fine with it as she'd eaten it all every year .

I gave up on DH's brother - he says he's got him something, not sure what yet.

I have 2 brothers too - one has a trilogy of books this year (the Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr), after i checked with him had he read the last one & he came back to me saying he hadn't read any! Was sure he leant me the first 2. oh well.

Other brother - a book - why men are crap and women need more shoes - meant to be helpful advice pre his wedding next year, not sure now but no other ideas...

We have this year come to the joint decision to all give up buying brothers/sisters and their partners/husbands presents! We just buy for each others' children now.

JustKeepSingingCarols · 11/12/2008 18:14

basementbear - i'm hoping we will come to that decision as a family soon too. i guess it's unfair on some as they don't have DCs yet but it all feels a bit weird agreeing to buy each other things, i mean we could swap £10 each but where would be the point, we may as well keep our own £10 and agree to buy ourselves something we want (in the sales too!).

I got my BIL, who is as good as brother but never wants anything, a set of "Boys own books" which inc old classic like the 39 steps and 80 days around the world. Cost 9.99 but rrp is 79.99. Well pleased with them cos they look like a great present (and are) but didn't cost that much.

TeeBee · 12/12/2008 12:30

I've got mine a next voucher.

witchwithallthetrimmings · 12/12/2008 12:43

I made an agreement with my sisters, we all decided that as all bils were cr**p at buying presents any present from them would be from my sisters. Thus so rather than us each buying two presents we decided to only buy each other one and ignore the husbands. If they love my sisters then just want them to be happy and if they don't then not interested it buying them presents anyway
