My MIL has had a Kelly Bronze for the last couple of years.

They're very nice and you can order direct and they deliver.

Breed??? Surely you mean brand. Yes Kelly Bronze are nice. But anything which doesn't have the words 'Bernard Matthews' written on it is probably okay.

Check out the labels for 'added water and fat' and avoid those. If you are nervous about it, get a turkey crown (just breast no legs, which are easier to cook. M&S do a nice one ready stuffed with bacon on it in a foil tray. You just have to wang it in a hot oven for the stated time!

harpomarx · 09/12/2008 20:18

yup, my mum has bought one of those for the last couple of years too, psw. They are piss easy to cook too! Not sure where she got it from, but she is near Brighton, will try to find out.

swottybetty · 09/12/2008 20:34

cheers guys. will check out this kelly bird

Not to be confused with this turkey

PestoHoHoHoMonster · 09/12/2008 20:42

We get our Kelly Bronze from

Middle Farm

but you might be a bit late for ordering one now...

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 09/12/2008 20:43

Archers, in Islingword Road, Brighton, is an excellent butcher - mostly local, free range, organic.

The Butcher in Richardson Road, Hove is also good apparently. I'm sure both would sort you out with a lovely beast.

Ronaldinhio · 09/12/2008 20:44

I was too late for lots of places but Ocado do bronze organics and deliver to your door

WMMC - i was most disappointed to follow a link to le osbourne when surely Elle Brooke would have been more appropriate.

cheers for info re local butchers.

£65 for a bird to feed 5-6 people seems quite pricey. i was thinking £40-£50 tops. saying that i once paid £30 for a chicken cause i was so shocked i was rendered dumb.

We paid £45 quid for our Kelly Bronze last year, which easily fed 6 adults and 2 toddlers and there were some leftovers. It was gorgeous, too - shortish cooking times. Ours was from a local farm (in Scotland, I'm afraid).

whomovedmychocolate · 09/12/2008 21:27

I just got a very nice turkey from the cooperative supermarket half price for about £20 to feed five of us. It's 5 kilos so I reckon it'll be fine.

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 09/12/2008 22:30

I've just ordered a Kelly Bronze direct from the farm in Essex. We chose a boneless breast joint as its easier to cook, doesn't dry out like the whole bird can, and is so easy to carve. Plus, I also cook a ham joint so we end up with too much in the way of leftovers with a whole bird too. The turkey cost £45 delivered direct to us on 23rd December.

I've never had the Kelly Bronze before......anyone got any comments favourable or otherwise about this type?

bea · 09/12/2008 23:16

kelly bronze definitely!

Colonelcupcake · 10/12/2008 13:25

I am getting mine from the well hung meat company, ordered a christmas box delivered on the 23rd and thats a Norfolk Black (fresh)

PestoHoHoHoMonster · 11/12/2008 13:57

Kelly Bronzes are the way to go TheRealMrsJohnSimm. We first started having them about 5 years ago, and have never looked back

TheRealMrsJohnSimm · 11/12/2008 17:25

Thanks Pesto.....am looking forward to it now instead of worrying that I've just wasted £45 on a single meal!

BellsCarolsNSleighs · 11/12/2008 17:37

also go for the K.Bronze.. from...
BCNS smallholdings
