Seems steep. Am I out of touch?

yep, sounds right for a nice free-range lovely type thing.

cluelessnchaos · 08/12/2008 23:11

I got mine from aldi for £20

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 08/12/2008 23:12

And there will be plenty of meals and fat and bones to stretch out

ihavenewsockson · 08/12/2008 23:12

does it lay golden eggs?!

thisisyesterday · 08/12/2008 23:13

abel and cole charge that for a medium sized organic free range turkey.

if you want a big, decent quality bird it will be expensive.

thisisyesterday · 08/12/2008 23:13

their goose, big enough to serve 6-8 is £90!!!

cluelessnchaos · 08/12/2008 23:14

I had the aldi one last year and it was fantastic

fatjac · 08/12/2008 23:14

Unfortunately that seems about right.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 08/12/2008 23:15

Was it already plucked? I really need some goose quill feathers if you happen to acquire any along with your expensive goose.

Tinker · 08/12/2008 23:15

Not arsed about organic but do want free-range. Had a free-range turkey last year but can't remember price.

lol @ newsocks

Tinker · 08/12/2008 23:16

Well we only want to serve 4. Can I ask for 1/2 a goose, I wonder?

OP posts:

ask them how much it'll serve. abel and coles is £70 for one to serve 3-4
so that's probably about right tbh

thisisyesterday · 08/12/2008 23:17

but I am sure they'll have diff sized ones

Tinker · 08/12/2008 23:18

Wasn't being serious about 1/2 a goose but think we'll have to search around other butchers/farms

pointydog · 08/12/2008 23:19

hell's bells. Do they always cost £70 or only at Christmas?

thumbElf · 08/12/2008 23:21

if its a Gressingham goose, yes. That's what we paid last year for one.

Am thinking of going to Waitrose this year for it - somewhere between £45 and £55 apparently.

thisisyesterday · 08/12/2008 23:21

depends on howw "happy" your goose was I suppose
I am sure you can get them a lot cheaper, but I doubt they'll have been raised very nicely, just like any other meat

Tinker · 08/12/2008 23:22

When partner asked by to guess today what butcher had quoted I thought I'd aim high at £30

OP posts:
NorthernLurkerwithastarontop · 08/12/2008 23:23

I can remember my grandma being horrified at having to pay £35 for one - that was 20 years ago so i think £70 sounds like a fair price

Tinker · 08/12/2008 23:35

The Waitrose ones: can you order them? Not got a big enough freezer to get one in advance. What if I don't even like goose after this?

OP posts:
thumbElf · 08/12/2008 23:37

yes you can order them from Waitrose; and if you like duck you should like goose.

Tinker · 08/12/2008 23:38

I love duck

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 08/12/2008 23:39

and at that price you'll just bloody eat it anyway lol

BreevandercampLGJ · 08/12/2008 23:39

Sounds about right.
