Not thinking straight, normally send presents 5 days before christmas but this year my family are exchanging this weekend, so 2 weeks before christmas.
I am thinking of choc covered peppermint creams, coconut ice, lebkuchen...but nayone got any ideas of something guaranteed to last/

(did chutneys last year btw!)

fudge/tablet? Lasts ages...

was thinking of giving this a try

littlefrog · 08/12/2008 21:41

Christmas biscotti (twice baked biscuits)

tinseltwiddler · 08/12/2008 21:51

That looks interesting littlefrog. nice recipe here

Quattrocento · 08/12/2008 21:52

I thought biscuits were twice baked anyway?

rach345 · 09/12/2008 00:47

look on allrecipes.com they have tons of recipes

thumbElf · 09/12/2008 01:07

homemade mincemeat? lasts forever ages.
mini fruitcakes, individually iced (assuming you have the time)
mini rum truffles

thumbElf · 09/12/2008 01:13

can't find the recipe I use for rum truffles on the net - sure it was there before! - but here is one that looks similar.
My rum truffles last ages. I have to use real rum in them cos you can't seem to buy rum flavour/extract any more.

ChirpyGrinch · 09/12/2008 18:01

That's great thanks.
I have mincemeat already but wanted something sweet too, we did fudge last year but weren't sure if it would last the fortnight!

I do like that I would have to buy an entire bottle of rum for truffles...and then I am sure it would eb such a shame to waste it.

I made some Christmas Divinity earlier which are rather too sweet, they are sort of fudgey florentines, so they might last too.

Any more ideas?!

I just made the biscotti, the ones you linked to, and they look SO professional, just like the ones you see in shops! Though actually they're a bit sweet for my taste - next time I'll make them just with nuts, no fruit I think. They look lovely though, all speckled with green and dark red. And very quick and easy.

ChirpyGrinch · 10/12/2008 20:15

OOh, I made those biscotti too, thet are gorgeous! will probably need to make more tomorrow though

chirpy, if you make the rum truffles, you might need to make a double batch as well

littlefrog · 11/12/2008 13:39

mmm, same here, chirpygrinch... though fortunately (!) DS thinks they don't really count as 'bissies', so he's clamouring for them a little less than for all the other Christmas goodies. They're pretty, aren't they!

ChirpyGrinch · 11/12/2008 15:30

I have had to pack them all up, I counted out 10 each for my siblings packs, and some christmas divinity things too...unfortunaelt as we have all been hoovering them, there are only 8 in 2 boxes, and 9 in the other!

Have packed them with silver tissue paper in those foil trays, one big for biscotti and one smaller for sweets on top, wrapped in more tissue paper and gathered and tied on top with a bow. Look very festive (if a bit silvery!)

Am saving teh rum truffles for next week as I needed to put it all together yesterday, I doubt I would have been able to not rip into them
