What do you give your Postman at Xmas?!

We have a fab regular postman who signs for mail for us if we're out and hides parcels etc, always says hi to the kids etc.

Last year I gave him a Christmas card with fiver in it, but he never thanked me or mentioned it!

I wonder if he thought he measly, or felt it unnecessary and was embarrassed etc.

What do you give your postie?!

nothing, but then we don't have the same one all the time.

cmotdibbler · 08/12/2008 15:54

I've bought ours a box of chocs - she is fab, greets us by name, leaves parcels etc.

No idea if this is 'right', but it seemed to be appropriate

HensMum · 08/12/2008 15:56

A letter of complaint if he's not careful - he keeps leaving parcels on the doorstep and often doesn't even bother ringing the bell to see if anyone is in, just dumps and runs

yarooo · 08/12/2008 16:00

£20

but he goes out of his way A LOT and often

wideratthehips · 08/12/2008 18:06

i wish our postie would leave parcels!....the place to collect them is miles away and its always a sodding nightmare half hour wait whilst they try and find things.

our postman changes from week to week so can't do anything, but if you really appreciate yours i'm sure some money would be well recieved

thisisyesterday · 08/12/2008 18:12

if i've letft a window open on the ground floor my postie chucks parcels in! lol

mrsmaidamess · 08/12/2008 18:13

Nothing. But my brother is a postie and got £600 in tips last year!!

crokky · 08/12/2008 18:15

fil used to be a postie - he would get cards with £5/10/20 and/or chocs/alcohol. He did get a lot of tips at Christmas - I doubt he was able to remember where it all came from!

Waltzywotzy · 08/12/2008 18:24

I expect if they get that many tips it could be hard to remember. But my postie says thanks when I leave give him a card with a tip in (last year £5). If he is working the mail gets here before 10am, otherwise it can be after 1pm.

£600 in tips, he must be a good posti, mrsmaidamess.

brightwell · 08/12/2008 18:45

My postie is great, I give him £10 also give the milkman £10

thefortbuilder · 08/12/2008 18:48

our postie changes every couple of months so we don't give anything but our milkman will probably get a card with £10 in

bin men and recycling guys we give a box of beer to (think this is probably inappropriate but they always seem to think it's a nice thing)

bollockbrainASSofBETHLEHEM · 08/12/2008 18:50

DuffyMoon · 09/12/2008 07:33

the sack...... bruuum tish

ClareVoiant · 09/12/2008 08:05

Last year i think i stuck a £2 coin to his card. He's a very good postman, however, we always know when he's on holiday cos we get our post in the morning! Instead of the usual 2pm. He's very chatty, but i figure he's got a harder job these days, since i order so much stuff from the internet. £2 seems a bit measley now, after reading your thread. I think i may give him a fiver this year.

saltire · 09/12/2008 08:08

Previously nothing. In the space of a year we had 18 different posties, sometimes we would get no mail for days on end, or it would turn up at 6pm!
Then in about April we got a new postie (we still have him), he used to arrive here about 10am, its got later as they have added to his round. He is fab though. He leaves parcels with next door, when I ahd a problem with a keepsafe, he checked up on it for me, etc. I may leave him a £5.00 for being so good.

piscesmoon · 09/12/2008 08:12

Nothing-we don't get it until lunch time at the earliest and it is different ones.

flamesparrow · 09/12/2008 08:15

I take a big box of biscuits to the sorting office counter staff - they are the ones who I see the most and who are lovely to me.

MrsSeanBean · 09/12/2008 08:19

I have a great postie, he's just so cheerful (I am full of admiration as I am still grumpy at 9am never mind the hour he must get up). I see him quite often as I buy a lot of stuff on ebay and get lots of parcels, but don't know his name. How can I address the card - just 'Mr Postman'?

TheVirginGoober · 09/12/2008 08:21

A smile.

Tortington · 09/12/2008 08:25

ive never give the postie anything - i guess i should..he is always listening to musci - i will get him a HMV voucher.

popopat · 23/12/2008 09:15

ok, thought i should report back! i gave postie £10 in his xmas card. he said thank you and gave us a xmas card which said inside 'thanks again'. so, i am glad i upped his tip and i think giving it to him the week before xmas meant he was able to take a bit more time to acknowledge the gift!
