I asked dh and dd what they would like for breakfast Christmas day.

dh: those nice cinnamon rolls you make...
(huge faff, recipe makes gazillions and needs cooking on the day)
dd: black pudding

I think I shall make them toast. bah humbug!

Moral of the story:

Never ask people what they want. Always decide what you're going to cook and then give them that!

ilovemydog · 07/12/2008 22:59

could you freeze the cinnamon rolls and do you have a recipe?

thumbElf · 07/12/2008 22:59

well, you did ask!!!

if I ask, I'll get told kedgeree; or smoked salmon scrambled egg with bacon and toast, possibly sausage, tomato and mushrooms as well.

I won't be asking

skrimbo · 07/12/2008 23:00

What about cinnamon toast as a comprimise.

choosyfloosy · 07/12/2008 23:01

How about cinnamon toast and pains au chocolat? (pain aux chocolat?)

Lauriefairycake · 07/12/2008 23:01

Get a bag of cinnamon rolls from Ikea.

They are lovely....

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 07/12/2008 23:05

Ikea = hell

Cinnamon toast - very very good idea AND I can put dd in charge of it. Shes 9 so it will make her feel very important.

You are all so right though - next time don't ask, even if desperate for a source of conversation!

recipe be warned is so sickeningly delicious.....

I am such a bad mother that when I asked my DS he said
"Why?"
and looked at me suspiciously as if he thought I might COOK something!

oh and then he said
"I'll just have Frosties!"

ilovemydog · 07/12/2008 23:10

brilliant! Thanks - do you really use dental floss to cut the dough?

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 08/12/2008 09:12

no - I use a knife

doesn't everyone just eat the chocolate from the stocking for brekkie on xmas day?

gagamama · 08/12/2008 09:17

I just let mine stuff themselves with chocolate all morning, I'm a bad person.

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 08/12/2008 09:20

no thats not being a bad person - that is being a very good person - happy children and no stress on your part (til the sugar high kicks in!)

DD eats a selection box, I'm a terrible slattern even on Christmas day!

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 08/12/2008 09:21

can I just put in a quick protest though - I don't do a starter!

OP posts:
compo · 08/12/2008 09:23

don't get why people do starters for such a ginormous meal especially when people have been scoffing chocolate and mince pies all day

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 08/12/2008 09:44

no I don't. I think it might be to keep people quiet while you wrestle with a half undercooked turkey and 30,000 sprouts.

Are you doing kedgeree, Thumbelf?

Because I'll be there!

SummerC · 08/12/2008 11:02

I'm going to be making these!! Although I have to figure out how to convert it to grams and ounces I guess.

Thanks for the recipe!!

onthepier · 08/12/2008 21:23

Just saw the threads on cinnamon toast. Tesco used to do a lovely cinnamon + spiced loaf in the Finest collection. Haven't seen it in there for a while but it's worth asking, the top's all dusted with icing sugar + it tastes lovely! They're quite small though so you'd need several.

thumbElf · 08/12/2008 22:14

I might, missblythe - you never know.
Trouble is I always forget to do the rice the day before so have to do it on the day which then takes aaaages.

basementbear · 09/12/2008 21:11

We always have Panettone for breakfast on Xmas Day. Not because we are Italian or anything - just cos I can't be arsed cooking anything and anyway it is delish!!
