Secret santa gift for a muslim man?

Hi all,

We are having our work Christmas party next week and I have drawn a Muslim guy's name out of the hat. He brought Xmas chocs in last year, and always cheerfully comes to the Xmas party but I am completely stuck as to what to buy for him. Budget is £5-10 and he's not into any sports... Any ideas gratefully recieved!

I was thinking of something foodie - but wasn't quite sure if there are any particular ingredients which are not allowed? Sorry if any of this sounds dumb, but I want to get him something he'll like and I really don't want to puchase something which may (inadvertently) cause offence!

Thanks everyone!

Obv not liquor chocolates or anything with (I think) gelatine in - eg jellies. Biscuits?

If you buy something foodie, the main thing you'd need to avoid (other than the really obvious) is gelatine.

Most chocolates should be fine. Or maybe a big tin of biscuits. Or coffee / hot choc?

He likes fruit teas, so I popped into Whittard yesterday but they didn't have anything suitable (packaging all way too girly).

Thanks for the tip about gelatine, will check ingredients lists v carefully if I go for chocs!

If he likes fruit teas, you could get a few boxes of Twinings or the ones from Holland and Barrett and put them in a box with a mug or one of the infuser cups from Whittards. Wrap it up in cellophane and it'll look really pretty and he'd get a lot of tea for a tenner!

A muslim woman I worked with couldn't have most brands of bisuits. Think it was something to do with animal fats - had to be halal? She could only have cheap biscuits made with hydrogenated veg oil! But she was much fussier than many other Muslims I have worked with.

Tea and a mug seems great to me.

if it says vegetarian on the label and is alcohol free it should be fine
