oh lordy, how on earth is FC going to come up with this one??

DD's special letter to the man in red - all very secret, I had to smuggle it away and open it before it went in the post box!

anyway she says:

"Dear FC, you are very magic and I am not, so please could I have just a little bit of your magic?"

Any ideas???

She is 7 so the magic may not last for much longer - she told me "fairies aren't real, but FC is, Mummy".

magic kit?

Hassled · 06/12/2008 20:41

FC moves in mysterious ways and can't always manage to get everyone exactly what they want.

That's always been my line, anyway

charliesweb · 06/12/2008 20:42

I have no ideas, but your dd sounds wonderful. What a lovely letter. Make sure you keep it.

tissy · 06/12/2008 20:43

a magic trick, e.g. disappearing coin?

Trafficcone · 06/12/2008 20:44

My Dd has tried that too. One year she asked for a sleigh ride. I just ignored it and by the time she'd woken up to all her presents it was long forgotton.

LilySwalLoosHerTurkeyBaster · 06/12/2008 20:44

I would get a magic set and put a little note on it saying
"it took me a long time to learn...."

NCRedBreastedBirdy · 06/12/2008 20:44

A teeny tiny bag of fairy dust? With a note explaining it that it does not work for anyone who is not FC but that he felt, as she had asked so nicely, she could have just a little bit to see what it looked like and keep to remind her of the man himself....

DesperateHousewifeToo · 06/12/2008 20:45

What about some 'special magic dust' (glitter) in a special bag/box with a note, from fc, that only fc can use it but please keep it safe in case he needs it.

mrsgboring · 06/12/2008 20:46

Hmm. Don't know how much you'd like to spend, but can you make a donation to a children's charity and write a letter from FC saying that her wish has brought magic into the life of a child who really needs it? Depends on your DD's personality, I guess, but she sounds really lovely.

NCRedBreastedBirdy · 06/12/2008 20:46

you stole my idea DHT

iheartdusty · 06/12/2008 20:46

I did think about a magic kit/trick, but the problem would be that DD would ask me whether FC is just tricking everyone!

she wants to believe in it all, and I would not be surprised if this is the start of her 'suspended disbelief' phase

NCR put it sooo much better than me

katch · 06/12/2008 20:47

I was going to suggest the magic dust - I sprinkle it from the fireplace to the DC's bedrooms to show where he's been.

iheartdusty · 06/12/2008 20:47

magic dust would be a lovely idea, but she has just given her friend a little set of fairy magic dust bottles (from peacocks, £3.50 if anyone interested, a very nice little pack)

debbiewebweb · 06/12/2008 20:47

i'd second a magic kit, but i'd also have to try and have a conversation along the lines of "if I could do magic I'd .... what would you do?" to see if there's anything FC could 'magic' for her - or just because I'm a nosey mum

iheartdusty · 06/12/2008 20:50

I like that idea debbiewebweb

fortunately there are a couple of other things in the letter

a cuddly penguin
a "few sweets"
and a picture of FC himself!

(is she on the trail for evidence and fancying herself a sleuth I wonder?)

OP posts:
kif · 06/12/2008 21:00

why not relabel a science toy with a suitably magical moniker

elf putty

magic scuttle bug

power ball or smaller here

fairy phone

you get the idea!

if you get it right, the benefit would be that it is not a con. The underlying science is as mysterious and curious as 'magic'.

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 06/12/2008 21:03

Get her a nice little mirror and write her a note with a little rhyme such as:

You think you are not magic
But in fact you are
Look into this mirror and you'll see you are a star
The twinkle of your eyes and the magic of your smile
is a very special magic you will keep for a long while.

Cheesy I know but she'll love it!

Umlellala · 06/12/2008 21:12

Ledodgy that's brilliant!

iheartdusty · 06/12/2008 21:14

love that idea ledodgy!!

(ponders whether you can get calligraphy done online...I had to write a note from the Tooth Fairy once and it was hard to disguise my writing)

also fab ideas from kif

thanks everyone

Get her a fairy wand and everytime she waves it, everyone pretend she's invisible for 30 seconds.

pigleypudding · 06/12/2008 21:17

iheartdusty- Yeah you can.. I saw it advertised when I was organising my wedding. ( writting name place cards)

Google it and im sure you will find someone.

pigleypudding · 06/12/2008 21:19

Just thought - do it on the computer yourself using a nice font.

Could add a photo of father christmas in one corner.

Umlellala · 06/12/2008 21:20

am sure someone on here can do it. or email my sis (design graduate)via ebay/CAT me. lrbiddis on ebay. she makes stuff for fun (not profit) and am sure she could do it for you for a couple of quid.

iheartdusty · 06/12/2008 21:44

following on from kif's idea, I found this

hologram maker

I think the Science museum does do them cheaper but she has been there recently and knows FC doesn't hang out there...
