Help with Boxing day lunch please

I have 8 adults and 2 children coming to lunch on Boxing Day. I want to do a hot lunch (but I can't fit everyone around my table so it needs to be eaten on knees), that is not too much hassle (if I could make it ahead and freeze that would be fab) but quite impressive. I was thinking of a nice red winey beef casserole but dh has pulled a face at that one. He suggests chilli but I don't feel that's impressive enough and you can't please everyone with spicyness!
Also need ideas for pudding (again if I can make them ahead that would be great as I won't feel like faffing about on Boxing Day morning (I am doing all the Xmas Day cooking too)

lasagne and garlic bread? with salad?

I was going to suggest ham in coke with left overs from the day before!

Or tell your dh you are making boeuf burguignon to make your casserole idea sound more impressive

I just love cold turkey and salads with baked potato-I prefer it to Christmas dinner.

Try Nigella's Chilli with Cornbread topping. Its absolutely delicious and you won't need to do anything to go with (other than perhaps guacomole etc). You can make the chilli itself in advance and add the topping before baking.

However, if you are feeding them all day, I would be tempted to pile huge festive ham, cheeseboard, crackers, salads and dips, bread, and other nibbles and leave it out all day. Otherwise you will be run ragged.

Huge steak pie from good local butchers, make it easy for yourself. Or get DH to make it if he doesn't like your suggestions.

Thanks for all the ideas - still haven't decided what I am going to do. Just found out we have an ofsted inspection on Wed (I am a teacher) so can't think about it till then!
