I am thinking about doing beef wellington instead. Always done turkey before. Bit scared.

I don't do turkey.

Each year DS and I come up with a list of our favourite foods and we have a meal based around those. This year DS has requested Salmon of some sort.

Go for it, beef wellington is delish!

soremummy · 04/12/2008 11:10

I was thinking of doing a three bird roast from local butcher. Large boned chicken, boned duck, pheasant and stuffing. But Im scared I wont like it. I've never eaten pheasant so im unsure what to do. But them again I hate Turkey

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 04/12/2008 11:18

We are doing scary goose!

branflake81 · 04/12/2008 11:20

we are having venison

yomellamoHelly · 04/12/2008 11:23

I wish! Would love a roast joint of beef with lots lovely horseradish sauce. Instead I shall be pigging out on pigs in blankets and loads of veg. No-one seems to noticed I've not eaten any for the last few years.

needmorecoffee · 04/12/2008 11:26

nut roast
what is beef wellington?

travellingwilbury · 04/12/2008 11:29

We are doing goose as well , I have doe it for the past 3 yrs and it is much nicer .

soremummy , I have done one of those 3 bird roasts before and tbh the pheasant is so small it doesn't make much difference . It is yummy but very expensive for what it is .
I much prefer the goose

OhYouMerryMerryKitten · 04/12/2008 11:31

Do you have any tips for stopping the goose being so spitty scary? I cooked it a few years ago and it was yum but it didnt half make a mess!

soremummy · 04/12/2008 11:40

Thanks travellingwilbury for the info. I know its expensive but this year is different Im out to impress having my inlaws for dinner first time they have stayed at home in 10 yrs and as a surprise my dh 2 aunts are visiting from Ireland and tbh think this will be the last meet up for them all for xmas. Also after the huge gap with my dd want the older ones to have a nice treat one will be 18 in january. And youngest dd is 18mths old.

notnowbernard · 04/12/2008 11:41

Think we're having duck

soremummy · 04/12/2008 11:43

mumblechum · 04/12/2008 11:44

Never done turkey. I think dh is doing a dim sum banquet. I leave him to it at Xmas, I cook all year except Xmas and hols

spookycharlotte121 · 04/12/2008 11:45

I know someone who had raindeer sausages one year. Their dd cried and refused to eat them. lol

HarktheHarrogateMumissinging · 04/12/2008 11:47

3kg sirloin of beef with a herb crust, roast spuds, yorkshires, squash and parsnip bake, brocc, carrots, gravy.

Scrumbo.

misshardbroom · 04/12/2008 11:54

Oh you lucky lot. Bloody boring turkey for us again because DH doesn't think it's Christmas otherwise.

Wish I was going to HarrogateMum's for Christmas dinner.

sherby · 04/12/2008 11:56

pheasant

cherryontopofthexmastree · 04/12/2008 12:09

turkey crown (coz dp likes it) and roast beef here

hoarsewhisperer · 04/12/2008 12:26

we are having beef wellington as well. To make it ultra easy for myself i am doing individual ones as you can make them hours before and then stuff in oven at last moment.

i am also refusing to do xmas pud as no one really likes it - am doing trifle.

No starter ideas yet though, had thought about doing pate, but think fish might be better...

lizziemun · 04/12/2008 12:51

We being doing either roast pork or beef haven't yet decided on.

expatinscotland · 04/12/2008 12:51

roast beef here.

hi, Overmydead! did you get housed? hope you're doing well!

Hulababy · 04/12/2008 12:57

Never have turkey here. This year we have booked to eat out. I have ordered sea bass, dh ordered duck and dd the salmon.

ClausImWorthIt · 04/12/2008 12:58

Roast fillet of beef here.

Never have turkey because we never had it as a child - so no Christmas associations for me.

NotQuiteCockney · 04/12/2008 13:12

I did goose two years ago. This year it's a multi-bird roast, not sure what yet, will go talk to butchers on Saturday.

ohdearwhatamess · 04/12/2008 13:13

We haven't had turkey (or Christmas pudding)for years.

We'll be having rib of beef.

Iklboo · 04/12/2008 13:19

We're having duck stuffed with pork steaks and cranberry & orange stuffing. With rosemary roated new potatoes, mash, sprouts, baby carrots, parnsips.
Carrot soup to start or smoked salmon
Strawberry Gateau for pud cos DS loves it (his other favourite is Arctic Roll and we're definitely NOT having that )
