Dried pasta as christmas tree decoration - anyone tried this?

To make my christmas tree toddlerproof, I'm thinking of painting some dried pasta in silver and hanging on tree, instead of baubles.

Two questions:

  1. What's the best paint to use and where to buy?
  2. Will the pasta decorations keep for next year?

TIA

the only way i can think of to make my xmas tree toddler proof is to put it up high somewhere he cant reach it. because if i dont he'll just pull it over.(its a small fibre optic one for this very reason)

eh, sorry for not answering question.

but can you get non toxic silver paint?

and if they do decide to eat the pasta, will they not choke on it because its not cooked?

what about those lovely felt christmas decorations? Or wodden ones, they wouldn't get crushed or broken very easily

dd is obsessed with our tree every year, it never stays looking nice so i just make sure that when she dismantles it it wont hurt her

hopefully this year will be a bit better, she is now 3 and a bit

agree paint on pasta might be toxic

I thought loads of people would do the pasta thing!
Tree in playpen would offend my eye - sorreeeee.

Felt decorations not a bad idea. don;t want to spend money so might be a flaff to make?
Anyway, gingernutlover - how's the fudge-making?
Went all the way to Lakeland and they were sold of sellophane bags will have to check out John Lewis.

I've done it - I added food colouring to vinegar and died the pasta in that. Don't leave it too long else it will be soggy. It worked really well.

How about bundles of cinnamon sticks and dried orange slices?

SpankyouHardOnChristmasNight · 04/12/2008 13:47

Or soak the dried pasta in food colouring, allow to dry and hang up. Replace if it goes mouldy!

gingernutlover · 04/12/2008 16:38

oooh the food colouring is a good idea, i have done this tomake necklaces at school with my class and they didnt go mouldy while we had them (about a month)

the fudge making didnt happen as i got sick and then the hob got ripped out, my new oven comes dec 21st so i am planning a last minute fudgefest! Will also be making shortbread though cos that is nicer if you make it in advance and my oven is still working

gingernutlover · 04/12/2008 16:38

oh and i went to a ladies craft evening at the chruch and they shwed us how to make marzipan figures xmas trees and choir boys etc, thought they might be quite cute too

FeelingLucky · 04/12/2008 18:15
