What is moonsand? I think I might want some?

Hotwheels - yawn?

Tommy · 03/12/2008 23:16

I wouldn't either of those IME

hollyandnoah · 03/12/2008 23:20

I would like moonsand.. for me :D! It is great fun.
Yes i think a 4yo would like it!

Not sure about hotwheels? But only because i don't know what they are! My ds is only 11 months old so i'm still learning :P

But my niece has moonsand, and it is good.

Quadrophenia · 03/12/2008 23:21

hot wheels are ace, my ds has a simple hotwheels track. it has four lanes and is in a carry case. You put the cars at the top and race them down the track. my ds can tell you with all his cars which one will win everytime...hours of fun apparently

ChippyMinton · 03/12/2008 23:22

If you must get hotwheels, get this track - no fiddly parts, no batteries, it folds up, and it tells you which car won, came 2nd etc. Get a selection of cars to race on it.

We had some sand thing, not sure which one, but it was total rubbish.

ChippyMinton · 03/12/2008 23:22

LOL that's the best one eh Quad?

Quadrophenia · 03/12/2008 23:25

yay it rocks, my ds sits for hours with it and he takes it camping

dooneygirl · 03/12/2008 23:27

I have a 5 yo DS and 3 yo DD, and they both can't get enough of Hot Wheels. Almost everything they asked for had something to do with the cars or monster trucks. I got them the track CM suggested, and I bet they will play with that for hours on end.

apollo11 · 03/12/2008 23:31

thanks guys. appreciated.

bahcornsilk · 03/12/2008 23:35

No to both. Moonsand gets everywhere and is impossible to wipe up. Hot wheels also a nightmare. The track goes up and stays up gathering dust and getting in the way. In our house anyway. Bah humbug.

BlackEyedDogstar · 03/12/2008 23:42

nobody said what moonsand is? I want it, but need to know what it is ffs.

roundcornvirgin · 03/12/2008 23:43

It's this really annoying coloured sand that repels water and makes a mess.

Quadrophenia · 03/12/2008 23:43

its a waste of money, play doh but sand

apollo11 · 03/12/2008 23:48

ok. the blurb says something like, it never dries out, you can mould it and shape it, etcetera, etcetare, etcetera....

of course if it was actually from the moon i would have bought it for myself (as you may have guessed from my name...)

but i cant get the tune from the advert out my head. i go around the house singing, moonsand, moonsand, (in a very high voice).

OP posts:
Quadrophenia · 03/12/2008 23:49

it is impossible to keep the different coloured sand seperate...it drove me mad

BlackEyedDogstar · 04/12/2008 00:16

oh ok.

I thought it was sand from the moon

also

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 04/12/2008 02:10

My dd1 adores moonsand but it gets everywhere. And I do mean everywhere. It will turn up days after it has been put away (all merged into one colour of course) in clumps in rooms you know it wasn't played with in. And it's a pain in the arse to hoover up. It sticks to carpets.

If you live by my matra of meh, its only mess it will clean then your dc will have great fun if not it will be binned after the first use

MouseMate · 04/12/2008 05:32

Oh I hate hate hate moonsand (and that bloody advert lol). DD got it last Christmas from MIL. Took about 2 days for all the colours to be mixed (now a sort of dirty grey) and it was ground in to EVERYWHERE. I'm sure the bloody stuff multiplies - We never let it go upstairs BUT there is a patch in our bedroom and DDs!

If you can ban it to outside, then fine (but with british weather I doubt that's possible) otherwise NO NO NO

snuffyp · 04/12/2008 17:52

i agree i hate moon sand it stains your hands its messy its rubbish!

sunshineday · 06/12/2008 09:19

oh moonsand is a messy nightmare best to avoid it play doe is better.

BeautifulSonsMumma · 06/12/2008 19:08

I agree - moon sand gets everywhere. Its a nice idea to basically have an indoor sand pit, but its so messy and you lose alot each time. Also colours get mixed up etc. My 4year old DS likes it - but he loves anything that spreads around the house into every crevice!!

WilyWombat · 06/12/2008 19:16

We have had two hot wheels tracks and they were both apalling quality - luckily both were presents I would have been gutted if I had spent the money on them.

The idea is great, the adverts make them look v exciting, I reality the plastic is thin and tacky barely fits together and breaks really easily. Im sure someone must like them though as theyve been going since we were small.

Also bear in mind you either need the room to keep it up all the time or you will be asked to construct it with annoying regularity.

Moonsand would be really popular with junior and maybe not so popular with you (a great gift for someone elses child )

WilyWombat · 06/12/2008 19:16

The hot wheels in the case sounds good though

LurkerOfTheUniverse · 06/12/2008 19:58

moonsand is awful, avoid at all costs

as are bloody bindez aquabollockybeads, but that's a different thread

DesperateHousewifeToo · 06/12/2008 20:40

Bought 2 hot wheels tracks for ds couple of years ago. Was one of worst presents I ever bought.

My fault, I didn't check how big it was when set up. Consequently, they have only been set up twice each and now are all (plus another he got last year) stuffed into a large bag under his cabin bed as too complicated to put together without my help and the instructions are long gone.

Complete waste of money. (Although if we lived in a mansion....)

(The one linked above looks more straight forward though)
