Christmas stockings

Dd is only 18mo, and I have bought her lots of 'main' presents. However, stockings (of the Christmas kind) have never been a tradition in my family, so she didn't have a stocking last year.

Is it a tradition worth starting? Will I be depriving her of a crucial part of Christmas if she doesn't have one?

We didn't have stockings when I was a child but I do stocking for my boys and I'd definitely start doing it. It will buy you a bit of lie in time when she is older! And they really seem to enjoy it.

It doesn't need to cost much as you can get little bits ans pieces that you might get her any way (crayons, bubble bath, play doy etc).

Mmm, I like the idea of creating our own traditions. Dh does not like the idea of spending even more!

I don't think it needs to cost more. In a way I think it saves us money because they get so much pleasure from all the little bits and pieces that I think I get away with spending less on the other "main" presents. We do the stocking from Santa and all other presents from us.

Could you fit any of the things you've already bought into the stocking? And then just pad it out with stuff you think you might buy her anyway. A few bits of fruit/bars etc. Socks in the next size up? At her age it doesn't really matter what is there it is the fun of unwrapping it.
