Pressies for DS aged 2

I am struggling. It is his birthday a month before Christmas so I have used up quite a few ideas already. I fing that at this age the toys are relatively small, cheap and you end up with tons of clutter, sign of things to come I suppose, but I'm looking for some 'big' present ideas, in size or price. Plus if I could be cheeky, what sort of money do you spend on a 2 year old at Christmas? I have seen these ride on dinosaurs for £300, that's a waste of money surely?

Tricycle
Fold up easel
Slide

Or similar things with play value/usable for a while.

I wouldn't spend more than £50 on a big present, personally, and it would be unusual for me to spend more than £25.

go to Myriadonline... lovely gifts for little ones - and one's you'll want to keep for your childrens children

£300???

he'll have no concept of cost/sacrifice/effort
that you've expended...

and do you really need plastic shite all over your home? Or cluttering up your garage?

If you want to get something big... get a sand-pit, not perfect weather for it now, but he'll love it in the spring/summer

Thanks to you both, I sometimes wonder whether it's just me being tight but there is obviously a reason most little ones toys are below £50, as you say they don't appreciate the value of expensive things. Just as well really cos they're not going to be into them for very long.

Does he have brio train track? It is fantastic and he will play with it for years. You can also add to it every birthday and christmas.

I hae spent £25 on ds2 (2) for his main present plus stocking fillers.

We have spent £15 on DS' main present: a keyboard (it was reduced from £40 though).

He's already had a mini-xmas with one side of the family and he was given a Bilibo (google it!) and a toy till from ELC both of which have been played with constantly in the 5 days since he was given them - clearly going to be hits. Otherwise his favourite toy (which has been neglected for 4 of the past 5 days!) is Duplo - so he's getting some extra stuff for that.

Other things I know people have bought him are: a Micro Scooter, the Build It Construction set from ELC and a small guitar (he's music mad). We've also bought him a story CD (loves these) and other small bits for his stocking are some new snack boxes, gold coins, a stacking police man, a toy motorbike (loves motorbikes).

He also has some wooden cutting fruit and veg with knife and board set which gets a lot of play out of it.

I think you have to play to your DS' strengths - mine isn't really in to cars and doesn't play with the one train set he has but he is massively in to physical play, music and building stuff/imaginative play so I've tried to go with that.

oh my god bunsen, £300?! I bet he would be just as happy with a £10 gift. Have bought DD a doll's stroller (£6! but I know she will love it) and a postbox from ELC. She will also have a couple of books, a jigsaw, peppa pig DVD and something to wear. (ooh and a satsuma of course!)

Sorted! He's getting an elc keyboard and saxaphone and some bath crayons! Thinking block has been lifted! Thanks everyone. Now what to get everyone else, hmm. Credit crunch - selection boxes!
