My 2 yr old has just started so I haven't a clue. I don't know any other parents there yet to ask them, so I just wondered what the norm is.

We're thinking of just getting a tin of Quality St or something to share

i have no idea what the "norm" is at ds's nursery but no, I am not planning on giving gifts to the staff there.

Last year I gave each of them a small gift bag with a tube of nice hand cream and a few chocs from our enormous tin of Roses.

They had already mentioned in passing that they had a ton of chocolates already.

We do a big tin of chocs and a tin of biscuits - there's quite a few staff in DS's room (most do at least one day at college, and some are part time, so although theres a core group always in, there are some that are only there 2 mornings), so proper presents would be a bit pricey.

They tell me that knowing there are chocs and biccies in the staff room for the next few months is rather nice

i gave them a cheque towards their christmas night out. this was at ds1 preschool and they were all wonderful carers who adored the children and i was privey to the accounts for the year and saw what the annual salary bill was...i'm sure it was below minimum wage what they got paid.

DS is at school but use the before/after school club and I buy gifts for the staff as they are great and they make a big effort with the children. Also buy the teacher and TA.

Not sure how staffing works at the nursery but if a variety you could get nice chocs, posh biscuits or wine to share. Or maybe a selction of Lush bathbombs and soaps so they all get a little something.

When DTs where tiny I gave a donation to the shared pot which was used to pay for a meal and drinks for all the staff, then any money left over was divided up. I also gave a voucher to the particular carer who looked after them. Now they are bigger they don't have anyone in particular but I will just give money again.

It's a small nursery all in one room, so she doesn't have a main carer (if that's the right name).

There are 8 staff altogether, some part-time who I don't think see DD much, so if I get anything it would be a group present.

I'd feel a bit weird giving money to be honest. Although having said that, my brother, who is a primary school teacher, got about 10 bottles of wine in the summer and enough money to buy himself a posh digital camera!

I'll be giving them a bottle of wine each.
