My awful family are making my home look untidy

Hello all

Have just put the finishing touches to my home Christmas decor (Martha Stewart, before she went inside, taught me all I know) but unfortunately my dh and dc will insist on coming indoors, sitting down, eating in the kitchen and doing unspeakable things in the bathroom.

Really does spoil the ambience, you know.

Suggestions, please!

Can you lend them to someone else for the season?

onepieceoflollipop · 01/12/2008 19:59

Why do you let them in the bathroom? ime they only create smells and puddles of water.

Take them to Mcdonalds every day, it's cheap and will save the wear and tear on your kitchen?

Hassled · 01/12/2008 19:59

It's the way they clutter up the sofa that really grates, isn't it? Sympathies.

TheArmadillo · 01/12/2008 20:00

have you got a shed? or any kind of outhouse?

I think the only thing would be to ban them from coming indoors, but obviously you will have to find somewhere else to hide them. If you haven't got any outbuildings I would suggest a tent in the garden, with a bucket (they can empty themselves) and send them out food when necessary. Providing they have longjohns they will be fine.

I sympathise, families can be so inconsiderate sometimes.

Thomcat · 01/12/2008 20:00

Staple a tinsel curtain to their foreheads and around their heads and superglue xmas trees to the tops of their heads

TheArmadillo · 01/12/2008 20:01

IF that doesn't work, I'm afraid the final resort is rehoming them. I know you have probably become quite fond of them but it would be for the best.

sparklytinselbella · 01/12/2008 20:01

Yes, hassled. I can see you have the same dreadful problem as me.

Would gladly lend them out, popbitch - where abouts are you?

McDonalds - is that a soft furnishings emporium?

TipsyFairydifferentID · 01/12/2008 20:02

can you make the garage habitable? Tents and sleeping bags if you don't have a garage?

taliac · 01/12/2008 20:02

Why not makeover the shed for the duration?

Or how about a yurt in the back garden? Stylish, and out of the way.

onepieceoflollipop · 01/12/2008 20:05

McDonalds is a well kept secret - that is why you barely see it mentioned on here. Tis far too classy for most of mnet.

They sell a wide range of delicious "sandwiches" - that's what it says on the menu, and an unrivalled selection of soft drinks. I have heard that they even sell fruit shoots for those special occasions.

sparklytinselbella · 01/12/2008 20:06

I like it, Taliac. Nothing more satisfying than a makeover, don't you think?

Might give Martha a call...

x post with lollipop: are their powder rooms suitable for a lady of my social standing?

Apparently their powder rooms are open to all. Take a clothes peg can of airfreshener and you may be ok.

Or take your sandwich (cheeseburger) in with you and bury your nose in the beefy aromas.

sparklytinselbella · 01/12/2008 20:11

Mmm...beefy aromas.

Takes me back to when I was a young impressionable girl living with my parents on a naval base with all those great big strapping young men..........

What were we saying again?

mrsmaidamess · 01/12/2008 20:13

Switch all your lights off. Light scented candles in every room. You won't be able to see the crap cos its too dark, and it will smell divine.

SparkyFartDust · 01/12/2008 20:14

you know it is only going to get worse. They will open those perfectly wrapped presents on Christmas Day, and if serving brussel sprouts the unspeakable bathroom activities will increase.

sparklytinselbella · 01/12/2008 20:17

Please don't talk of such things, Mrs Sparky.

BTW, what exactly does your name mean?

Ugh - I cannot believe it!!!

My pesky little dc want to pin their naff advent calender on my beautiful mocha-with-a-hint-of-distressed-butterscotch walls.

Can't they see what this is doing to me?
