Help - what to buy DD (12 and a half) for Christmas?

I'm really stuck as to what to buy DD for Christmas. Thing is, she never really asks for anything, but would like to get her something she'll really like. She's saving up for an e-reader, so several people are giving her money. She enjoys taking photos, but I can't afford to get her a digital SLR. Also enjoys swimming and reading. ANY suggestions at all would be great - might help me think of just the right thing. Thanks!

Budget?

ChristmasPresence · 30/11/2008 21:37

Well, preferably £50, but could go a bit higher for the right present.

How lovely that she hasn't given you a huge shopping list - although I know that makes it harder for you. I think i would go for lots of little presents, rather than a big one if there is nothing in particular she wants. e.g. a disposable camera (Wow cameras from max spielman include processing) plus photo album and frame; toiletries plus swim shampoo/conditioner in a toilet bag; towel for swimming; WH Smiths voucher for books; makeup if she's allowed it; DVDs/CDs; clothes/jazzy socks/tights.

Very hard I know, depends on the child but would move away from thought of big present perhaps to lots of little surprises???

Book on photography -- either a general "improve your techniques" book or one focusing on portraits or landscapes or travel photography or whatever she's particularly into.

Subscription to photography magazine.

A bag from Clippykit that she could put photos in -- get the right size and she could maybe use it for swimming.

Lil, I think that's probably what I'll have to do, as there are lots of smaller things that she'd like. Actually I could maybe get a small digital photo frame for her room, so she could show off all her photos (she's quite good at it I think, but then I'm biased!). Any more suggestions welcomed....

My dds are 13 and 11 and will be getting smaller presents, rather than one big one this year.

I really like the idea of swim shampoo, nice towel etc.

Books-wise it depends what kind of things she likes but dd1 has recently enjoyed - The first two "Twilight" books / Malory Blackman's "Noughts And Crosses" series / "Pride And Prejudice" / "To Kill A Mocking Bird" / "How I Live Now".

I'd probably go for clothes/shoes for a girl this age - something a bit beyond her usual range and expectations in the glamour/grown-upness stakes. A lovely dress?

This is pretty.

I agree with Anna8888 clothes only if you really know waht she would like. Maybe ask her friends or see what they are wearing and make a little comment to see what she says. My aunt could buy clothes for me Mum couldn't. I like the photo frame idea fab. What about getting her favorite phot blown up for her wall.

Anna, thanks, but she's a big 12 (age 15-16 clothes) and most places don't make "nice" things in her size. Teen clothes seem generally casual, and adult clothes a bit too grown-up. My parents have bought her coat and boots so she could do with a lovely dress. I'll keep looking. Thanks everyone for your help.

How about IKKS? They have a good teen range - something like this?

Anna8888 · 01/12/2008 17:56

Or this?
