I wonder if you can come up with anything truly inspired. I am buying a gift or a few gifts for a mum and her 3 year old. I have never met them, so have no idea of interests/hobbies etc. The mum and daughter live in safe house in our local area which may help to narrow down the ideas a bit. Actually, the 3 year old is easy but for the mum ...... I was thinking of personal stuff, toiletries, nice chocs etc but does anyone else have any better ideas?

The budget (which I must stick to)is small, only about £12 each.

TIA

If she's had to leave her old house in a hurry, she might not have something useful like a purse/wallet.

Or a nice warm hat - hats are really "cool" according to my teen DD. Nice surfer style, try to find out her age. Or scarf/mittens.

Oh what good ideas, thanks.

What about a nighty?,one shes never worn in her old life, people feel safest in bed and new nightclothes are lovely and if you have enough money left a hard covered notebook so she can get her feelings down on paper privately.

for the dd something like playdough or fuzzy felts something that can be used again and gain and that mum and daughter can do together.

Thank you Sparkle, great ideas for mum and daughter. I hadn't thought of playdough which is a fantastic idea!

Hi Oxo

Maybe make up a small "hamper" kind of thing? Boots have some cheap pampering items which cost, £3-£4 and the some chocs too? if you get the 3 year old something in there as well you might be able to take advantage of their 3 for 2 offers? you could put together with some cellophane (sometimes florists give away if for a good cause )

HTH

The cellophane is a good idea and solves the wrapping problem - all gifts have to be donated unwrapped so they can be vetted by the staff at the shelter for suitability . This way, they could still check the contents but I could make it look lovely. My other thought was to put each present in a nice x-massy gift bag. I bought a little box of chocs to add to whatever I buy for the mum and a few cute hairslides/bobbles to add to the little girl's present. Am thinking Playdough is definitely the way to go for the little one!

can't better these ideas but just wanted to say what a lovely thing to do.

oxocube · 30/11/2008 15:39

The lovely one is my friend who has become really involved in this 'cause' and who has raised thousands of pounds for the safe house. She has run marathons, despite painful injuries, she has brought together hundreds of people who have all donated money and goods, she has spent days collecting clothes and stood for hours on tombola stalls etc at school fairs. I so admire her and everything she has done.

But back to the real question - any more ideas for pressies I am shopping tomorrow!!!

What a fantastic idea.

I love the nightie suggestion - nightie, fluffy socks and a teddy/playdough for the little one; nightie, fluffy socks and some toiletries for the mum.

Oxocube, I do something similar and I try to get something practical and something not so. I always stick to Boots or M&S 3 for 2 as you can mix mums and child's and as I see it you get a free pressie. However have also bought scarf/gloves from Sainsburys for a fiver. Cute tights for the wee one as well as a toy, ELC do small animals for a pound each.

rosbif · 01/12/2008 05:35

What about some nice beads or earrings from Primark too? Colouring things/stickers for the little girl?

oxocube · 01/12/2008 10:13

Thanls ladies. We're not in UK so no Boots or Primark sadly, but we still have similar shops that have good offers so it def pays to shop around!
