present ideas for people (sil) with no obvious interests

need something for sil. around £15. or perhaps something for her and db at about £30. she's a bit rock-ish - goes to festivals and I suspect that, like db, she was into heavy metal in its prime. likes purple. bit off-beat in her style. not particularly active, largely due to ill health. no obvious interests...I'm at a real loss (again). last year it was a lavendar buckwheat pillow jobby (I know, I still cringe about it) but she's really hard to buy for. any ideas?

Actually don't ever think buying something in line with a person's interests will be appropriate. They either have it or it is a case of gilding lilly

moondog · 29/11/2008 22:30

at buckwheat jobby
We've already laughed crueely about that tonight elsewhre.

hatwoman · 29/11/2008 22:30

ok so what would be an appropiate music magazine? I have no idea...

OP posts:
hatwoman · 29/11/2008 22:31

oh I've got several tomes on areas of professed interest that have never quite made it off the bookshelf

We agree not to buy presents for each other but go out for a meal together-it is much simpler and more pleasurable.

TurkeyLurkey · 29/11/2008 22:36

I just ask my sister outright what to get her and BIL. Cuts out all the crap, they get what they want and makes my shopping easier. Job done. Can you not be as ruthless?

moondog · 29/11/2008 22:37

Don't but music man fgs.
Nice bottle of fizz never goes amiss.
Or send her a nice bunch of flowers
Or bulbs
Or smart pots
Something nice to eat (not from a supermarket)
Smart handcream or moisturiser
On MN recommendation have bought Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish for lots of women in my family. £13 for a nice good size.Got some myslef. It's great.

Heated · 29/11/2008 22:43

Off the top of my head:
Kerrang?
Nme Magazine?

Bold scarf
Earrings?
Biography?
New pair of festival wellies?

SmallShips · 29/11/2008 22:47

Oh yes i stole the Liz Earle idea too, also got some for myself, its fab... and if you order online they send you a couple of free gifts!

blithedance · 29/11/2008 22:50

I luurve my buckwheat pillow. DH calls it my "headache cushion". I won't hear a word against it!

I have a friend a bit like that, have bought her a rainbow-striped scarf from GAP. Just because it's lovely and colourful in a festival-boho-stripy kind of way, even though GAP is a bit conformist usually!

Or a recent rock CD like the Paul McCartney one just coming out?

blithedance · 29/11/2008 22:52

Also try Nomads accessories?
