I'm struggling, she has no interests apart from DS. She walks the dog, feeds the chickens, tends the garden, keeps house, cooks meals, reads and goes to bed.

She buys any books she wants to read, has every cooking gadget you could reasonable want/need. She has no interest in make-up or toiletries.

Usually spend about £50.

I bought her wellies for her birthday. Last Christmas was RSPB membership.

What are you buying?

skincare goodies(I always buy her that) and a book I know she'll like.

wrinklytum · 29/11/2008 22:07

Mamma Mia DVD (she adored the film)
Slow cooker (She wanted one)
Theatre tickets if finances allow.

What about National trust membership or somesuch,or tickets to a horticultural show such as Chelsea flower show for your mum?

Anna8888 · 29/11/2008 22:07

I'm getting her a metal kitchen roll/cling film/aluminium foil holder for her kitchen - she really wants one, and nice ones are very expensive.

And some towels for her new bathrooms.

And skincare - creams etc.

SmallShips · 29/11/2008 22:08

Bought my mum a couple of different bottles of perfume and Liz Earle face gubbins.

That doesnt help you though does it?! Sorry.

giddykipper · 29/11/2008 22:11

Theatre tickets isn't a bad idea, might look into that, see if there is anything decent on near them.

Already National Trust / English Heritage members, good thought though.

A lovely tree or shrub?

I'm buying my Mum a kettle!

TurkeyLurkey · 29/11/2008 22:13

What about a magazine subscription. WH Smith on line have a fantastic selection. I want someone to buy me one actually but they never do despite my heavy hints.

BananaFruitBat · 29/11/2008 22:14

Does she like animals?

My mum has asked for a surprise so I'm getting her a wolf.

Tas1 · 29/11/2008 22:14

Ive got my mum tickets to Joseph & tech/raincoat at our local theatre.

What about......

  • National Trust Membership
  • Bird table
  • Padded Gilet jacket
  • Garden centre vouchers
  • Cast iron brush thingy to wipe wellies on before going into the house

Any good?

AnarchyAunt · 29/11/2008 22:17

DD is making my mum a calendar - well, with my help! She is drawing 12 lovely pictures and I am doing the grids with the days/dates on. We have done it the last two years and she loves it, its a monthly planner type thing that goes in the kitchen and gets everyones life organised on it.

Otherwise, theatre tokens, magazines, vouchers for favourite shops?

differentID · 29/11/2008 22:17

My mum is getting a couple of fleece blankets, 2 tops, a new set of decent saucepans, box of thorntons special toffee, Bon Marche voucher- she likes her trousers from there and a copy of our more personal wedding photo album.

HeadFairy · 29/11/2008 22:17

No idea, my mum's a nightmare, very well off, not many hobbies, still works full time, has fabulous clothes and is an interior designer so has beautiful house. It sucks, she is the hardest person on earth to buy for.

nickytwotimes · 29/11/2008 22:18

I'd second the magazine sub.

We got one for my Mum a few years ago and she loved it.

theinsider · 29/11/2008 22:20

One of these not this exact one but something similar.

She has a cork board on her kitchen wall at present and I thought it would be nice. A complete impulse buy so fingers crossed she likes it. And if she doesn't get enough stiff-edged invitations or photos she can slways put the pizza leaflets on it.

Any good for your mum?

giddykipper · 29/11/2008 22:21

Magazine sub is a good one, she gets Country Living fairly regularly.

Funnily enough, an animal/bird is a good one too, maybe get her some eggs for guinea fowl!

Digital Photo Frame with pics of DS on it?

My mum is getting a Nintendo DS from her DH for christmas so I'm getting her a game

lizziemun · 29/11/2008 22:23

Paving slabs.

lizziemun · 29/11/2008 22:25

As requested by her as she is doing up her garden.

My sister is getting her sand and cement.

othersideofthefence · 29/11/2008 22:28

Do you have any pictures of her dog/chickens garden? You could use these to make a calendar on Photobox.

Some lovely garden tools? these copper tools are amazing.

Seeds/bulbs for her garden. Some beautiful terracotta pots.

actually I think that's my Christmas list

MammaMeMe · 29/11/2008 22:35

Theatre tickets and magazines fab but (I know this might sound odd) a leg or back massage at a local place might be nice too - Mothers don't often think of this or treat themselves but all that time outdoors ...maybe!

RiojaLover75 · 29/11/2008 22:38

Don't have a mother. .

Never had the pleasant job of choosing a gift.

saltire · 29/11/2008 22:52

Paul O grady book
Dove gift set (she loves Dove)
Big box of Terry's All gold
Scarf

All things she will like

Tommy · 29/11/2008 22:55

I am scanning all my Dad's old slides onto the PC, printing them off and putting them in an album
